Dougie Freedman - New Manager

He didn't set the world on fire when he arrived.
He has issued some deeply weird statements.
He did produce an 'exciting' transfer window.
He has produced a better run of form than in his opening spell, and therefore as a result my opinion of him as improved.

Can't argue with much there but what are these "weird statements"? Pretty much everything I've heard/read about from Dougie has been insightful and a refreshing change to what went before. I liked hearing that he took his wife and kids to centre parks. Everything seems normal and business-like to me.

Bit cautious on the whole as maybe our turnaround has been solely based on Dawson and Medo, bit like bringing Holden in was a few seasons ago. But the quotes from Dougie are some of the best bits for me so far, and it sounds like he's getting us back to being a proper setup again.

Maybe they are only weird because they aren't the full English as it were, but yes I was refering to the ones Boltonboris mentions above (^ up there) and one or two others in a similar vein. It isn't really a big criticism, it's just that they grate a teeny weeny bit. If that's the only criticism I have of him by the end of the season I'll be a very relieved bunny indeed.

There was good discussion on here when he was quoted saying something about, being at the football club to make big decisions, but 'big decisions' were actually words used by the journalist in a question, which wasn't quoted.

I can't believe he hasn't looked back at some of his press interviews and cringed, surely he's smart enough to learn and improve in that area.

It does seem to be in the longer articles where the weirder stuff lurks as well. Or maybe that's just the impression I get. So it is probable that once in full stride his interview brain takes over and allows his mouth to run away with itself. As you note, it is a skill that can be learnt and maybe he'll get better at it.

I think he's definitely odd, though I have heard different on his popularity. Heard that were it not for Dougie, Alonso would already have agreed a deal in Italy for next season for example.

I suspect he's not very popular with a certain 'barrell-chested' captain though. But hey, you can't please all of the people, all of the time!

The business he has is good in that it shows him to have the intelligence to not rely on management in football. However, I do have a concern that it presents a potential "conflict of interests". Hopefully not. But I'm not entirely comfortable with him pushing it in the public eye as he has done.
