Charlton away
Early doors, yes, but it's our next game, so we might as well get talking about it
Following on from defeat at Ipswich this seems like a decent place to get back to winning ways. Charlton, despite lying mid-table, currently have the worst home record in the division, mustering a mere four wins. Confident? Don't be, as we currently have the joint-fewest wins away from the 'Bok and the third-worst record on our travels overall.
They've just come off the back of a 2-0 home defeat by Millwall. Prior to that they beat Huddersfield away, drew with Posh away and before that they lost to Burnley...yep, you guessed it, at home.
thoughts? Predictions? Draw written all over it, for me.
Who's going? Me and pru should be there, and PB possibly. Any others? There's a pub nearby called the Antigallican which is quite alright.
FUN TRIVIA: Apparently Charlton's nickname, 'the Addicks' derives from...fish and chips. Back in the day the fishmonger who supplied the Haddock said it in a lazy south London style. The name stuck.

Re: Charlton away
I think I might get the train down for this. I'll price it up anyway. If the match tickets are £25 or under, I'm in. Otherwise, they can get to fvck.

Is it because you've never been able to afford it?
Is it too far away perhaps?
Or maybe you've just always hated Alan Curbishley?

Re: Charlton away
Do go. It's a nice ground now, and weirdly empowering as a fan: before Charlton supporters got active in the 80s, it was nobbut a weed-infested hillside.Dougie'sEleven wrote:90% in for this one. Never been to the Valley before. Thoughts?
Decent view and of late it usually seems to be a somewhat remarkable game, too:
Nov 94 W 2-1 – two Sneekes goals
Oct 96 D 3-3 - enjoyably bonkers game
Sep 99 L 1-2 – Durkin sends off Todd and Whitlow
Mar 02 W 2-1 - Djorkaeff's first goals, the second a free-kick
Jan 03 D 1-1 - late Djorkaeff overhead kick snatches a point
Jan 04 W 2-1 - Pedders (in for injured Youri) scores after 25 seconds, Nobby wins it late on
Apr 05 W 2-1 - scorers in order: JayJay, Jeffers and Jiouf; we go above Liverpool and Allardyce says we're chasing the Champions League. What's not to like?
Oct 05 W 1-0 - Nakata sets up Nolan, we go third
Aug 06 L 0-2 - Bent double. Hreidarsson sent off for elbowing KD, who suffers a broken cheekbone but plays on before being sent off himself; Darren Bent scores two, one from the penalty spot, then Diouf has one saved by Scott Carson. Oh and it's watched by our new signing Nicolas Anelka.

We've only ever had one of them at their place, back when Clement Attlee was Prime Minister.Beefheart wrote:It'll be 0-0 then?

Or from Waterloo, you can get the underground (or overground) to London Bridge and then the overground to Charlton.bwfcdan94 wrote:Same here, change at Waterloo and then walk to Waterloo East from memory.HMX wrote:I'm in! Not far for me, this one.
Contemplating going to this, figured if I got there early I might go to the all you can eat brazilian place at the O2 and walk from there.

Overground doesn't go to Charlton I don't think?
Jubilee line to North Greenwich, twenty minute walk from there. A piece of urine, as it were.

Re: Charlton away
National rail recommended I go via Waterloo east, seems like the easiest option to me. Can anyone remember how far the ground is from Charlton station.mrkint wrote:Overground doesn't go to Charlton I don't think?

Yeah it'll be different for everyone - just thought I'd throw another route out
I play pool near the station, which is apparently very close to the ground.
