I'm very surprised Sordell's gone out on loan. I know it was only pre-season but we only scored a handful and he got three of them - including two very good strikes against Shrewsbury. Ngog will never be a prolific goalscorer, even at this level, so we're looking entirely at Beckford to grab us a panful of goals.

Its early days to be talking like this but our surge up the league last season coincided with Charlton's own surge. Does Dougie not see them as potential rivals?

Further update. Iles has just tweeted that the Daily Fail have it on good authority that Mears is off on loan too. Not sure I'm happy with this one if true, we're awfully light on full backs...

I also remember reading somewhere earlier today (either Iles' or Nixon's feed probably) that we're still in for Spearing.

Totally disagree. wanted him to succeed and believe he has talent, but he's never looked like he wanted to play for us. Coyle messed him up initially, but Dougie has worked hard with him and got very little back.

I guess, coming via a relegated Burnley and in Coyle time Mears will be on decent ... if not spectacular, wages. So, again, some cash freed up. But it does leave us spectacularly thin on the ground for full backs.

I'll miss Sordell for his potential and that he gave us something different. I won't miss the constant disappointment, nor the sulking and constant lack of settling down up here.

If it opens the Spearing and Moritz doors then sobeit. Just that centre-half to go now.
