Stu Holden was fantastic tonight for the U.S

Post by erikusa » Sat Jul 06, 2013 7:43 am

He came on in the second half of the U.S game tonight and was fantastic in the U.S 6-0 win. His long range passing was terrific, ball movement was terrific, and he was explosive. The U.S scored 5 goals in the second half when he came on with him setting up 3 goals two of which were beautiful passes. Yes the Guats aren't a good team but he was easily the best player on the pitch tonight. Current form, fitness, and confidence with time will return, he's definitely on his way but watching this guy for a few minutes you can see his touch/vision are still elite for the U.S. He also looked bigger, muscle mass you can easily tell he did alot of strength training during his rehab.

With the game he had he will likely start for the U.S in the Gold Cup that starts next week with 3 games in 7 days. Would love to see him go the full 90 if he's up to it.

I wouldn't count this guy out just yet and he's got alot of the U.S fans stirring about a possible return to the starting lineup of the A team for the next round of World Cup Qualifiers next month...it was only one game but he really looked that good. You might be able to watch the replay and second half online at nbcsports.com to see for yourself.

I heard he did very well, which is promising for us and America. As bad as his injury has been, he has the qualities which should still mean he's a very good player after recovery, even if he has long lasting effects from those injuries. If he has permanently lost a bit of pace or he can't turn quite as fast, that won't define him as a player unlike with others, who have careers ruined. Holden's best attributes shouldn't be too affected by the injuries, so I really hope he signs a renewal with us.

He had two goals a PK and a goal on a beautiful assist from Holden. Holden took over the game in the second half though.

if anyone gets chance, take a look at his pass for Donovan's second, the build up included from him was incredible!
