If you could pick six players...

Post by Dave Sutton's barnet » Wed Oct 09, 2013 8:01 am

A quick, deeply theoretical question for you. There has been talk on other threads about which players are the key ones to keep, and which can be safely (or gladly) discarded.

So, let's take that a step further. Which six players on the current salary list (NOT loanees) would you most like to still be at the club next season?

For the purposes of this experiment, don't worry about wage levels (if you have a feeling that some players would be let go of for financial rather than footballing reasons).

You have an outstanding opportunity to create a non-fatal Year Zero. Who do you save?

1. Jay Spearing
2. Marc Tierney
3. Medo
4. Mark Davies (and pray he stays fit)
5. Rob Hall
6. Tim Ream

That was bloody difficult... A great question DSB and I think it shows the issues we have at the club.

Hall is in there for his potential.

Mark Davies, if played behind the striker I think is the player who can be a difference maker for us.

Spearing and Medo for obvious reasons.

I've been impressed with Tierney as a good solid left back.

Ream - his performances this season are making me start to forget the previous 18 months. Plus he's the only defender we have who is half capable of bringing the ball out from the back.

The major one I was toying with is Eagles, but his inconsistencies and the rumours about attitude made me pass.

Medo
Spearing
Tierney
Hall
Mavis
Baptiste

... & I struggled. Not to get it down to six, but to get to six.

Interestingly, all Freedman signings !! (aprt from Mavis ... and Spearing was initially a Coyle loan   ).

I would add Clough and a few from the up & comings as well, btw.

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

1. Mark Davies
2. Spearing
3. Medo
4. Baptiste
5. Tierney
6. Eagles

Mentions also to Mills and Beckford who I wouldn't want to shift on.

Pretty much this. Would love to have Holden as well, but lets face it, a top level career is sadly likely behind him now :(

I can only manage four.

Spearing
Hall
Tierney
Medo.

Maybe Moritz too if he gets some weight off and lives up to his billing.

IF Mills carries on playing as he is, and shows the same character and desire for the rest of the season (and taking DSB's rule of not worrying about finances as he suspect he is paid more than he is worth) then I'd add him to the list too.

1. Spearing
2. Beckford
3. Eagles
4. Tierney
5. Mark Davies
6. Baptiste

All the rest can go. I don't see what the big deal with Medo is, he can't pass a ball more than 5 yards without it going wayward. That's not to say the others are good, but they're the best bunch. I'm giving Beckford benefit of the doubt, he's been poor but I saw enough in the Birmingham game to think he could do a job for us.

Medo would top my list
He runs with the ball quite well, he tackles like Muamba
Granted he often passes like Muamba but he''s come very close to scoring 3 (?) this season and his pass for Beckford against Yeovil was as good as owt you'll see

hall
eagles
davies m
holden (believe)
bogdan
tierney

good challenge DSB. My list makes me realise I like players who I think can make a difference. Only problem is that we wouldn't have a full team !

don't get the spearing/ medo love in - ten a penny m/f scufflers
see a lot of people have baptiste - must be his blackpool legacy as he's not had a good game for us, albeit played out of position
