The End is Nigh - Preston (H) 12 Mar @ 15:00

I'm sure the thread title has been done before, but I'm past caring.

We'll scrape a draw. It'll be anybody but Lennon's fault. One of the youngsters will be described as lazy/soft/inconsistent/useless (delete as applicable) by Mr Motivator.

Good luck to those brave souls going. Medal is in the post.

Might be another 0-0. Preston have had eight, the most in the division; only they, Brighton and Sheff Wed have had more than our five. Might seem daft to predict a clean sheet when we haven't had one in 15 league games, but PNE don't score much: fewer than us overall, and they've fired blanks in 11 of 36 league games (only seven teams have more often failed to score).

We have to win. Nothing less is acceptable. It won't change much (if anything) but to lose a chance of three points when we're actually playing decent football is not on. A lot that folk are howling about right now isn't our football but the fact that we are consistently losing or even drawing (which seems to be regarded as a bonus). If N.L is honest, that will be what's getting at him most. How many "if only" chances have we wasted? Pratley's shot and Clough's header against Ipswich weren't down to the same thing as the goalie making good saves, they were cert chances gone begging. Vela's lollipop effort the game before was the same. The opposition all around us are scoring goals that are less than dazzling, but if our attack put their chances away the defence with Derik and Holding at the centre is not the worst. Madine the machine would also get less stick in general if he hadn't missed so many real chances that decent strikers eat up with relish. The almost hysteria that a late injury time penalty that gave us a point, brought almost erased the fact that a lot of our support had already gone home when it happened.

Win. That's all it takes to totally change everything. Get in there, it's Preston not Paris St Germaine...

Fear not! For this game anyway.
We beat Preston (while McDons lose to Kingstonupon). I've got a 100% prediction record since I posted the run in predictions. The last three games have all gone according the fates as revealed to me. Nailed on WIN this one. Nailed with tempered steel nails...

We'll win this and "Dean Holdsworth's Super White Army" will ring round the Mac long after the final whistle has gone!

And so it proved.

This Saturday I'll be at 'Miss Blennerhassett's Fu(k!ng Jukebox' in Birminghan instead, so I'll go for a 2-1 win. :)

With new owners and a steadied ship, if he starts Gary Madine and throws the Owen Coyle big book of substitution tactics in the bin we'll be laughing.
4-1 to the Wanderers.

With any other manager in charge and such good news that the club is safe for the moment the place would be booming and a dead cert win.

We've got Lennon so we'll lose or at best draw!

We tonk someone every season and I confidently predict this will be the match. 4-1 us. A glimmer of hope before we realise MKD have also won.

Nope. I'm not having that. This weekend: we win, MKD lose. Nailed on certainty.

Which would leave us just the seven points from safety... unless Rotherham win their home game with Derby, who last month helped our cause immensely by losing at home to Dons. (Since then, the Rams have won three and lost two.) Even if we win and Dons lose, a Millers victory would leave us eight or nine points from safety.

For the record, the table at the start of play:

Fixture-wise, this is one of those weekends that would have been much more promising if we'd been less shit lately. McDons are at Hull (4th), Rotherham host Derby (5th), Charlton host Boro (2nd) tomorrow, and today Fulham host Bristol City in a match they can't both win.

But I've definitely given up. Honest. There's no way I'm even considering the possibility of a hope of a sliver of a glimmer of a chance of a peep of a whiff of a dream.

Rachubka, Wilson, Holding, Derik, Moxey, Davies, Trotter, Pratley, Feeney, Madine, Clough
subs Campbell, Vela, Danns, Wellington, Dobbie, Woolery, Finney

One change: Spearing dropped altogether, replaced by Madine who creates a space on the bench for Vela, returning from the purgatory now inhabited by Spearing
