Re: Garry Jones
Bless him, he was something of an idol for me. I once asked my hairdresser (Yes, it was a long time ago) for a Gary Jones cut. RIP.

Re: Garry Jones
Always thought he was underrated as a player. I remember him fondly from my first couple of years watching the whites. Am I right in thinking that he'd been poorly for a while? RIP.

Re: Garry Jones
I always remember him for that superb Burnden evening when he bagged a hat trick against Man city.
His best game I saw him play was at Roker Park where he tore the Sunderland defence to bits, cant remember the score that day.
RIP Garry and thanks for the memories.

I was there as well. Sept 1976. 2-0 to us. Reid scored one of them.Athertonian wrote:I always remember him for that superb Burnden evening when he bagged a hat trick against Man city.

Garry was astonishingly good that day.
There were only about 100 Bolton fans and we were put in an end with 1,000's of Sunderland fans. I've never been so scared.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

If one game Garry played in that'll stick in my mind more than any other, then it'll always be this.

Aye, that'd be the one where I had Jones nearly getting a hat trick...dunno how I used to mix 'em up...
Re: Garry Jones
Was talking to my mum.about him earlier. Apparently my grandma was shouting him for playing rubbish at one game when someone pointed out he wasn't playing. She probably would have claimed the team sheet was wrong.Worthy4England wrote:Aye, that'd be the one where I had Jones nearly getting a hat trick...dunno how I used to mix 'em up...
Before my time but a name I heard from parents and grandparents. Should've lived a lot longer.
RIP.

Saw that from the Embankment. Two hours earlier I'd had a couple of my teenage teeth pulled and it made me feel a whole lot better!Riviman wrote:Some great memories of Garry, particularly his hat trick against City in the League Cup.
