Also, considering we didn't pay the promised fee for Doidge and Magennis's quoted fee was £200k, we did quite well to spend twice as much on agents as transfer fees.
Wait - what!
Did I just read that correct? We bought 1 player for £200k and spent nr £500k on agent fees... OMFG (aaaarrrgghh:)
To be fair our agents fees aren't that outrageous in that table. As far as I understand I think even free transfers incur some agents fees? I think agents charge the player and club for arranging contracts? Like a glorified version of the IT industry :)

Birmingham and QPR's fees look the most ridiculous to me. Both under some kind of embargo, QPR didn't pay any transfer fees yet incurred agents fees of £1.4m, Birmingham signed a player for a reported £2.2m (which broke the terms of their embargo and contributed to getting them a 9 point penalty), and very few frees/loans and paid £2.1m in agents fees.
What it does tell you, though, is that the football economy is shite and unsustainable.
Particularly in the high stakes casino that is the Championship!
Yup.

Which makes you think, are we the tip of the iceberg? Is there a strong chance a number of clubs could go under, to be replaced by smaller more sustainable clubs with a much lower staffing budget?

Ultimately a players ability should be reflected in salary - if you are in the league with the big tv money it’s fair to get your slice; if not then your salary should reflect it. Wonder how many of Fulham’s players are taking pay cuts reflective of the cut in tv money next season?

Might see the return of players running pubs after they retire cos bang average championship players haven’t been picking up £40k a week!

"Bolton Wanderers are facing the threat of a two-window transfer embargo from the EFL unless they pay their players’ March salaries by Monday, Telegraph Sport has learned".

Hello darkness, my old friend.
To quote the Times' Geoffrey Green about Billy Wright being turned by Puskas, "like a fireman going to the wrong fire".

I'm as unimpressed as the next man about the lack of payment – and you should see him, he's fuming – but a transfer embargo would punish the new owner for the misdemeanours of the old one. Or rather the potential new owner, because it would therefore make the sale that bit less likely.

In no universe does handing down a transfer embargo help the sale of the club – a sale which the EFL really really needs to go through, by the way. Unless it's intent on frying an egg and then whacking itself in the face with the frying pan.

For those of you who haven't been following the musings of "HowardRoark" on t'other site, his likely final words:

No parting shot, just a confirmation of a few things (albeit most have been said before)

1) I was born in Bristol, yes, I found myself in Bolton for work in the mid-90’s. My first game was Spurs at Burnden in the league cup. Season ticket until 2009 when work took me to sunnier climbs. At Burnden I used to park behind the paint centre on Weston St, at the Reebok it was on Scan as they were a client. I lived in Harwood and drunk in the 7 stars and Crofters, occasionally the No Name.

2) I came here with a double agenda and under the employ of a firm based in the Middle East. The agenda was initially to make clear the lack of funding available to FV, so that ground swell didn’t cause a completion before my group were through EFL checks.

3) You may not believe it, but we saved the club in March by contacting KA the day before court to show our hand, without that it was liquidation.

4) Following that the agenda became to shine a light on the activities of KA so as to cause a knee jerk reaction and complete with our group. We know he reads here and has sensitivities to statements, likewise the forensic accounting started to apply pressure.

5) The arrival of Mr Bassini’s group was something of a surprise/spanner in the works and has caused issues to move us away from our required narrative. I do believe he has the backers to complete, likewise he has the backers to support guerilla action to discredit our bid.

6) Why did we want to buy the club? The land is highly valuable, the hotel car park in particular as well as bits around the training ground and relief roads. We also believed that a speculative £120M investment may well generate a return of 2/3 times this if EPL could be agreed. The sale value of the land would allow for significant investment/offset some risk. We were very much looking at a Wolves model but with the input of a slightly less country specific agent.

7) The documents were not ‘knock ups’ and I will put the originals on a Dropbox for you to view them once the takeover is completed.

8. My frustrations stemmed not from the challenges posed, but from the misery. Maybe it’s the situation, but I’ve always been of the opinion that I take a man at his word until I’m proven incorrect. What I see here is a small number of individuals who would rather spend their time attempting to prove me wrong/discredit rather than engaging in intelligent debate; allowing myself to build trust. It is these individuals that will seize upon only this point in response to this message.

9) Any of you holding the tiny fraction of shares in Burnden Leisure could verify any of my statements through the club solicitors.

10) Mr Bassini is fronting the consortium because it is impossible to smear him, it’s a sort of perverse double jeopardy. That he is anywhere near the other consortium suggests the presence of my bidders is very real and that the comments on this forum have impact.

11) Our consortium’s link to another football team was Seattle Sounders.

12) Why did we choose to deal with Moonshift directly? KA was very clearly dealing with certain buyers who would agree to certain conditions that we simply could not, legally. Did we ever expect him to deal with us? No. Did we expect Mr Bassini? No. We expected a clear path once FV had been removed.

Those are my final comments because I expect Bassini to complete today.

Best,

Howard Roark

Given the information that is already out there, I think the rule with Bassini might be "believe the opposite of what he says unless proven otherwise" :)

I'm going to put some real big perspective here. Take what you want from it.

Indeed. But, selling it is no guarantee of a long term future either.

So it's either now or then? I know I'd rather a stay of execution to see if anything can be sorted in-between.

Yes, much rather have a club and some hope than nothing at all. But, I do wonder whether Bassini is a long term fix or just a sticking plaster for a few more months. Time will tell.

Very interesting Bassini did the interview, and at the same time said "The money is available, I just need to have two or three things checked out with Mr Anderson and the club and then we’ll go forward, but we are very close in the coming week". Very vague, suggests it might not be done in the coming week.

To me that indicates we are still in this pre-takeover process and that interview was nothing more than part of the information battle that is clearly going on here.

The key dates here might still be 8th/9th/10th April. If Howards's group are real and have purchased the Moonshift debt, they can still recall the shares at close of business on the 9th. If not, then Moonshift in theory have that option if they have been contacted by a buyer they prefer. KA will do anything to avoid that happening, so there could be fireworks off the pitch on the 8th/9th, way more likely than on the pitch during the Middlesbrough game. At the end of the week the players can also walk away for nothing, unless they are paid.
