The Promotion Commotion Transfer Thread 2017
Shall we try and keep these tidily in one place? I think so.
So, the first rumour out' the mill is this chap from Aberdeen who's apparently available on a freebie, McGinn, who Ally Morrison informs is a winger.
Daily Express are running this;
http://www.express.co.uk/sport/football ... ews-Gossip
According to Wiki he's scored 58 in 175 whilst at Pittodrie, which is nice.
Fleetwood will also be in for him if the get promoted via the play-offs

I hope this isn't going to turn into a Scottish transfer thread. You're responsible my wine supping friend
Re: The Promotion Commotion Transfer Thread 2017
Sammy Ameobi will be a free agent when the transfer window opens. I haven't seen it reported anywhere that we'd actually make a move for him but, given his previous history with us, I wouldn't be shocked if we did. Is he good enough to have a similar impact at a higher level?

Re: The Promotion Commotion Transfer Thread 2017
I always got the impression with Ameobi that defenders couldn't work out what he was about to do because he didn't know himself. Worked thoughNicko58 wrote: ↑Mon May 01, 2017 1:15 pmSammy Ameobi will be a free agent when the transfer window opens. Has he actually been playing since he went back, do we know?

57 minutes over four sub cameos (26, 24, 6 and 1 minute long). Two selections as unused subs. One minute on the pitch since Feb 4th. 17 times he wasn't in the squad at all.Bruce Rioja wrote: ↑Mon May 01, 2017 1:19 pmHas (Ameobi) actually been playing since he went back, do we know?

IMO in the championship we need players better than Ameobi, I'd be disappointed if we went back in for him.
Re: The Promotion Commotion Transfer Thread 2017
Maybe we do need better players than Ameobi but I wouldn't rule signing him out as he's a proven commodity under Parkinson and we know he can fit in well with the squad. In fact I'm quite keen on him being the first player signed which should let players coming on loan the belief that if they do well they will be brought on, which in previous seasons wasn't the case, see Jutkiewicz for example.Peter Thompson wrote: ↑Mon May 01, 2017 2:36 pmIMO in the championship we need players better than Ameobi, I'd be disappointed if we went back in for him.

See, I've also been thinking that it might be worth putting in a cheeky bid to bring Chungy back on loan as I don't see him turning out for Palace very often.Peter Thompson wrote: ↑Mon May 01, 2017 2:36 pmIMO in the championship we need players better than Ameobi, I'd be disappointed if we went back in for him.

Ambitious thread this, given we're under a transfer embargo.

I couldn't fit 'loanees, freebies, the unloved and the unwanted' all inTonyDomingos wrote: ↑Mon May 01, 2017 2:50 pmAmbitious thread this, given we're under a transfer embargo.

Re: The Promotion Commotion Transfer Thread 2017
Even when (if?) the embargo's lifted, we'll still have a small budget for the division; bigger than Burton, but dwarfed by most. In 2015/16 all Champo clubs bar Wolves reported a loss, many of them eye watering. I really don't want to get drawn back into that madness; it nearly killed my club. For that reason I'd rather be looking at freebies from lower down the food chain - thwarted tier-three promotion candidates who might step up, blameless tier-two relegation sufferers to good to drop - rather than big-waged bystanders at profligate Premier wannabes.
None of which relates directly to Ameobi or indeed anyone else. Just to say that unless Ken finds a bankroller (which, as we know, has risks) I wouldn't be surprised if our business is almost exclusively freebies and loanees... and also that precisely who they are will depend not so much on who they are as on how much they want - to fit within a much stricter wage scale, to increase the self-sufficiency than Ken has preached since the moment he bought in.
And a lot of that wage info will never be public knowledge, but guesswork; if we don't sign the player YOU want, maybe his wage requests were too much. For instance, I can't imagine Allardyce having the largesse to say "Chungy's on £30k a week but I tell you what, you can loan him for £5k and we'll pay the rest."

Ameobi would be good. I think he would do well here with Parky in charge and a supportive atmosphere. Was never going to get a look in under Benitez who wanted rid of him. He'd have been back here if Ken had the money at the time.

It depends on what your expectations are. In my view, the gulf in quality between the top of League One and the bottom of the Championship is even wider than the one between the top of the Championship and the bottom of the Premier League. Without significant investment from an outside backer, we're probably going to be battling it out with the teams in the bottom third of the league. Ameobi could be both a realistic target (he'll be available on a free and might just fancy the move) and of some use to us at that level.

I'd be tempted to not feck around to much with the core! I'd sign Alf,Sammy and Karcan like a shot! try and tie down spearing, wheats and sparky (latter strickly pay as you play) and go from there! another target man is a must! juke?

Feel we've probably moved past Juke, and he would be too expensive.plymouth wanderer wrote: ↑Mon May 01, 2017 4:05 pmI'd be tempted to not feck around to much with the core! Cannot understand any logic at all for signing Mark Davies on any basis. Doubt that lad will be playing any football at a meaningful level for any extended period.
Alf, Sammy and Karacan would be good. First signing should be Andy Taylor. Superb player. Then Wheater and the rest.

Agree with signing Taylor, Wheater, Karacan & ALF just don't agree with Ameobi....BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Mon May 01, 2017 4:10 pmFeel we've probably moved past Juke, and he would be too expensive.plymouth wanderer wrote: ↑Mon May 01, 2017 4:05 pmI'd be tempted to not feck around to much with the core! And on this we're in complete agreement. Not sure Taylor's really received the credit he deserves. As you say - a superb player for us this season. Seems to like playing for us as well.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Mon May 01, 2017 4:10 pm

I note that his contact at Wigan's up next month so that fits the criteria also.
Gerrim signed.
