Sad news. Just before my time as a manager for us. He always came across as an absolute gentleman.

It's been mentioned also in Banter. So many names and faces leaving the floor. J.A was a class act as a player, capped forty odd times for England. Hope he has a gill with Nat and Stan Mathews up there somewhere. R.I.P.

Before my time as a player and manager but always came across as a decent bloke and pundit.

RIP Jimmy.

His period as our manager was before my time also, but I always enjoyed listening to him as a pundit and commentator on Radio 5. He always seemed to be astute with good knowledge, whilst coming across as a decent, reasonable, intelligent bloke.

RIP Jimmy.

Heard it on the radio earlier this evening. Condolences to his immediate family and those that knew him.

Very sad news.
I think he was in my first ever away match - aged about 7- It was live on TV- the first ever - away at Bloomfield road. BWFC making history.

Always came across as a true gentleman.
The 90 minute BBC 5 Live interview is well worth listening to for a potted history of post war English football.
As someone said, a bit like a real life Forrest Gump. He popped up at all the key moments - as a player, manager or broadcaster.

He was the First overlapping Full Back - the opposition put 2 markers on to Stanley Matthews, so Jimmy made use of the space created. And got a rollicking from the manager.

As our manager he started our revival - in the old Third division he built a team with a lot of young players.
He also recruited Ian Greaves as his assistant - a really wise move - as he took us back to the top flight after Jimmy had gone on to Leeds.
Paul Jones, Garry Jones, Peter Reid, Sam Allardyce, Neil Whatmore, Don McAllister, Barry Siddall all came through from the youth setup in those days. And doubtless a few more that i have forgotten.
It sounded on the 5 Live programme as if it was almost an accident.
He played the youngsters because they could not be worse than the older ones

Very sad indeed - RIP Gentleman Jim
