New Season

Post by Prufrock » Thu Jun 21, 2018 9:07 am

Are you sick of there being no FOOTBALL? Worry not, it's time for the new season.

Fixtures have been released. We start away at what one imagines will be a much changed West Brom.

Darren Moore has beaten Mourinho and drawn with Klopp, but can he handle Parky?

First home game is Bristol City.

Boxing Day is Rotherham at home (oosh).

We end: Blackburn (a), Brentford (h), Forest (a).

I'm still not having they'd win if someone fought them, but sure DJBlu can't be fecked being the guinea pig for that theory.
By the same token that Jagger and Richards get 100% of the rights from The Verve's Bittersweet Symphony, despite the sample coming from music that wasn't recorded by the Rolling Stones but was a cover version which substantially altered the arrangement and melody... it's not always about who's right, but who's got the better lawyers.

Does that mean you all owe me £1 each for posting in Tango's bullshit late upstart copy-cat thread then :D?

It's not about having better lawyers, it's about having more expensive lawyers. Costs too much to fight. I'm absolutely not having there's any copyright in saying when things happen.

Stones at least created something, tenuous as it is that it flows through to BSS.

And Football DataCo say they create something, namely a database of games.

And they might have a point if people had copied their database. They haven't, they are just writing when things happen.

In fact, just done a search, they sued Yahoo! in 2012 and lost. Good old ECJ found there wasn't enough in a list of fixtures to attract copyright. That has to be right for me. Looks like they then dropped their case over here presumably so there was no ruling against them and they could keep trying to scare fan sites and the like into paying.

The ECJ, you say? They'll be biding their time then.
