Re: 2018/19 Fixtures...
I have a theory about fixtures,
Early we want all the relegated teams before they settle,
In the middle the crap teams
And at the end the mid-table teams when they got nothing to play for.
AUG
(A) TOP8
Bristol City (H)
(A)BOTTOM8
(H)BOTTOM8
Sheff Utd (H)
SEP
(A)TOP8
QPR (H)
(A)TOP8
Ipswich (A)
(H)TOP8
OCT
(A)TOP8
(H)BOTTOM8
(A)BOTTOM8
(H)BOTTOM8
(H)BOTTOM8
NOV
(A)TOP8
(H)TOP8
(A)TOP8
Sheff Wed (A)
DEC
(H)BOTTOM8
Norwich (A)
Leeds (H)
Brentford (A)
(H)BOTTOM8
Stoke (H)TOP8
JAN
(A)BOTTOM8
Bristol City (A)
(H)TOP8
(H)BOTTOM8
FEB
Sheff Utd (A)
(H)TOP8
(A)BOTTOM8
Norwich (H)
Leeds (A)
MAR
(A)TOP8
(H)TOP8
Sheff Wed (H)
(A)BOTTOM8
(A)BOTTOM8
APR
Ipswich (H)
(H)TOP8
(A)TOP8
(H)TOP8
(A)BOTTOM8
Brentford (H)
MAY
(A)BOTTOM8
Analysing this the March and April are a bit of a nightmare playing people who presumably have something to play for. Will need to get the bulk of our points before by February. November is bad but October is good. Moving December to April is ideal.

Don't publish the fixtures in full if you don't have a licence. It allows the Football DataCo, who charge sites a hefty premium for the right to publish them, to sue and close sites who haven't paid. They may not, but then again they may.
You might be safe to move them around a bit - a three-column list of TOP8, BOTTOM8, OTHER - but chronological lists like this are dangerous.

I'm still not having they'd win if someone fought them, but sure DJBlu can't be fecked being the guinea pig for that theory.

By the same token that Jagger and Richards get 100% of the rights from The Verve's Bittersweet Symphony, despite the sample coming from music that wasn't recorded by the Rolling Stones but was a cover version which substantially altered the arrangement and melody... it's not always about who's right, but who's got the better lawyers.

That's ok mate - I'm not angry, just protecting TW from legalities that may be utterly fatuous but are also potentially ruinous.

Yup, anything like copyright infringement is best avoided (:
Never watched football at Leeds... A game in August. Maybe this year!

What are they claiming as IP? A particular lay-out or just any information about fixtures?

Fair enough. There's absolutely no case there if they threaten to sue anyone, unless they have a layout they own and people directly copy that. Even then, they'd struggle to win a suit if credit was given on a non-profit site. Fair usage is protected.Prufrock wrote: ↑Thu Jun 21, 2018 4:26 pmviewtopic.php?f=4&t=26808

If they threaten to sue someone it doesn't matter if they have a case or not. Hosting companies, for example, don't like getting sued!GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Thu Jun 21, 2018 4:31 pmFair enough. Re: 2018/19 Fixtures...
It does, as it happens. If someone says they will sue you for an obviously frivolous reason then the likelihood of it worrying company 'x' is fairly low. If a case has potential merit then it's likely to cause headaches, but if someone says "I own the rights to the English language and any site using it is getting sued" then hosting companies, or anyone else, won't be getting into a tizzy over the incoming lawsuit.Armchair Wanderer wrote: ↑Fri Jun 22, 2018 8:25 amIf they threaten to sue someone it doesn't matter if they have a case or not. The viability of suits matters. That's why I asked what they were claiming to own. It seems the company in question have already lost a case on this issue, making it even less likely to worry anyone. I once had someone threaten to sue me because my company had the same name as his dog (I don't think he even had a dog). A threat of a suit is not a suit.

Re: 2018/19 Fixtures...
Aaand back on topic.......
Looking at the fixtures brings into cold, sharp relief just how difficult a season it's going to be. I'm struggling to find 3 teams that are substantially weaker than us (As we stand) and a poor start this year would be even harder to recover from. Interesting that 4 of our last 6 fixtures are at home, but I'm hoping, if not expecting, that we'll be almost safe before them.
