University of Bolton stadium
Pleased with this. Worked really well for Headingley Carnegie - be good to see it evolve into a campus style base and more activity on none match days. Links to the town rather than just another sponsor. And more income. Well done all involved.
Re: University of Bolton stadium
I'd guess they're not paying us mega bucks, but I'm all in favour with strengthening links in the community and working more closely with the sports science boffins at the uni.

I'm pleased with this. It was something the club looked at a few years ago, but at that stage the money wasn't right. Whilst the struggle to find financing isn't a good thing, this might just be a positive side effect. There was also some talk back then that the area around the Reebok (as was) might be redeveloped into a sports campus and a training base for certain Olympic sports. It was something some members of the council and guys at the uni were very keen on, but I think the council were worried investment might be too much on the club's terms. If that concern is now gone, there might be more in the works.

My hope, for a while now, has been that as the town's population increases and the area viewed as "proper" Bolton expands, that the stadium might start to feel more like part of the town. This might be a step towards that.

That was a PG idea. Doubt it will resurrect itself.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Wed Aug 01, 2018 10:43 amI'm pleased with this. Re: University of Bolton stadium
It was an idea Phil adopted from a proposal from some bods at the University and, Phil being Phil, he took credit for it. The University wanted, at the time, to significantly expand its sporting portfolio to go along with its sports science department. It may be that the association with the club will fulfil that ambition, or it may not. The project would be more likely to get government funding now, I'd suggest. The club would be less likely to hog all the limelight and Tracy Crouch has supported similar proposals elsewhere. Coming into the next election the Tories will want to do some projects that show they're investing in Northern England and something put forward now could work.

A rant: I wrote a lengthy one out then deleted it and just left this bit: If football clubs' outgoings were sensible, the incomings wouldn't be such a drastic issue.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Wed Aug 01, 2018 11:05 amIn what regard are they failing? They are cash rich and make a surplus each year.

My view on this is that its a terrible name for the stadium, its an absolute mouthful.
I can just imagine Jeff Stelling' saying 'there's been a goal at the 'University of Bolton stadium'....it just sounds a bit amateur to me, hopefully it'll grow on me in time.

I just visited my grandmother's grave with my mother. Whilst she put flowers on the grave I wandered around the churchyard and discovered that, for a number of months at least, the fxckin graveyard has been sponsored by a local business... About the same level of appropriateness as this stupid arrangement... University of Bolton Stadium, FFFFS!
That's not a leopard!

You wouldn't have to worry about that, if you're at the gamePeter Thompson wrote: ↑Wed Aug 01, 2018 2:32 pmMy view on this is that its a terrible name for the stadium, its an absolute mouthful.

Re: University of Bolton stadium
Miserable f*cks. Miles better than it being called the Bet Fred Arena or what have you.
Sure, the uni is a bit rubbish; how out of place alongside our team.
