He wasn't really a Ref though was he...I think Bristol just dragged somebody off the streets, brought him on the team but and paid him....seriously, I think there was only two bookings I would say were fair, the rest? Appalling officiating!!!

Under 23's beat Bristol 3-1 with goals from Luca Navarro, Dennis Politic and trialist Olawale Tanimowo. Apparently could have been more.

Nah he's always like this. He averages 52 minutes per appearance over his entire career. He's a luxury player that doesn't work enough to deserve a full game or he's never fit.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Mon Aug 13, 2018 11:37 amAre we assuming he's not yet fully up to speed with his fitness? He's a big lad and it can take a while.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Mon Aug 13, 2018 11:35 amDidn't have a chance to affect the game going forwards which was a shame. Sounds like one who needs to get flying - hopefully we can get him there.
He's going to need a sub assigned him every game.
What could've happened; did.

Christ alive.
He's got a low average minutes because lots of managers have used him as an impact off the bench.
This is why you can't just look at headline numbers. He's not playing 52 minutes then blowing out of his arse.

And why do they use him as an impact player?
So lots of actual football managers are wrong and you're right?
How can I explain.
Try it this way around:
He's a luxury player that doesn't work enough to deserve a full game or he's never fit
THEREFORE
He averages 52 minutes per appearance over his entire career.

Look up Ameobi before he arrived here.
Also look up Wildschut at Wigan.

34 games at Wigan less than half were full games (16).
Six of those were up front so only 10 times as a winger in League 1.
Generally regarded as his best season.
He's an impact player. Pure and simple and the stats bear that out.
You think Parky's going to flick a switch and unlock something no other manager has and he'll play 90 all season?
Hasn't happened so far has it?

Sammy's minutes per game before he came here was (a satisfying, I must admit) 52 mins per game. Why? Because he played a lot of games for teams where he wasn't good enough to nail down a starting place and so made lots of little 5 and 10 minute appearances here and there. That's 52 minute average Sammy who averaged 83 mins per game for us last year.
Wildschut will either get in the team, or he won't. It's even possible he'll have spells in and out. But the idea that his average mins per game for a winger with several moves under his belt tells you anything about his fitness is modern fanboy nonsense.

Not fitness. Completeness. Unfit for the role. He doesn't do what managers want enough to earn minutes. Sure if he were super fit he probably would but he's not.Prufrock wrote: ↑Tue Aug 14, 2018 12:56 pmYou can't, because you're thick as mince and talking bollocks.mullayo wrote: ↑Tue Aug 14, 2018 11:55 amAnd why do they use him as an impact player?

Also the majority of Sammy's being not good enough was at Championship and Premier League level.
The Wildschut Wigan greatness (season) was in League 1.
So for my "modern fanboy nonsense" to be wrong you're expecting Wildschut to suddenly jump up to 83 mins per game too -like your example?
I sincerely doubt that will happen so my point is pertinent.
That's why I mention the 52 minutes, to temper unrealistic expectations.
Plus it's a sub that has to be scheduled and with the lateness of our squad coming together that is an issue. A fitness issue

Right Prufrock, Insane and whoever this is simply sorted.
At the end of the season are Wildschuts minutes closer to 52 or 83?
Put up and/or shut up!
At the moment he's averaging 14 mins per so good luck with that

Some folk are cracking off the bench because it takes 60 minutes of frustration watching their teammates struggle to get themselves fired up. David Fairclough was a prime example, never had the same level of intensity from the off. I would imagine there are also folk where their processing times and reactions fare better against a tiring opposition.
Of course I may just be spouting bollocks. I generally do.

Re: MATCH THREAD: Into the great unknown. Bristol City (H) -11th Aug, 2018
If Wildschut is an impactful impact sub, fine. We had sod-all on the bench last season and it meant we couldn't change games that were going poorly. If they signed Wildschut purely to be that kind of player I've no issue with it. I don't think they did, but we'll see. For me, the lads who showed the most in preseason got to start the season - plus a couple of late additions because squad depth wasn't where we wanted it. Wildschut didn't have a lot of time in preseason and so it's been Ameobi, Buckley and Noone who have got to start thus far.
What I think is a bit odd is the idea that we said to the lad, "Come here and sit on the bench for us" and he rocked up. Clearly we've told him he'll get plenty of games and, from what he's said, we've also told him we want to be in the Prem sooner rather than later. He might be utter garbage for us yet, who knows...but he'll get games.

Ah, I wasn't expressing an opinion as to wether he is, or isn't up to much. Rather I was countering the argument there might only be two reasons why a player would be used as an impact sub.
As you were.
