Indeed, and we look again at the forwards we were linked with last summer that came to nought. Joe Garner went up the road instead. Liam Boyce, who's scored 10 for Burton. David McGoldrick, who's scored 11 for Blades. Danny Graham's got 12 for Blackburn. Chuks Aneke's got 16 in 30 for McDons. Oli McBurnie's got 18 in 37 for Swansea. Some of them were only rumours, some would have preferred other destinations, and maybe all wouldn't have scored as freely for us, but you wonder about those purchasing decisions being made by the family Anderson during July and August before that late commitment to Doidge – which as we now know they wouldn't fulfil anyway.

Billy Sharp, for example, scores a pile of goals at Sheffield United because his manager knows how to use him. I'm not so sure PP would have known what to do with Boyce, for example.

It was clear at the start of the season that Parky made Big Josh his main striker and pinned all his hopes on him. That just hasn't worked out at all.

I suspect this takeover is dying if not dead. I fear we are going to be in an existential crisis.

Apparently if we enter admin before 28th March, we can start next season in L1 on zero points, albeit under an embargo. If we can do that and emerge rid of KA that is the best possible outcome I can see.

It's not my money but right now I'm past caring if he makes a bob or two, just as long as he gets the f*ck out. Because the jeopardy here is that he drives away what must be a realistic takeover - it wouldn't have got this far otherwise - and we're not only left skint, but trying to either avoid admin or conversely accelerate it to take the hit before the EFL 'season' deadline.

Either way, and remembering that I'm indisposed to hyperbole, looks like this is one of the biggest weeks in the club's existence. We've been here before, of course, but the huge worry if this deal collapses is not just that this deal's collapsed. It's that we might actually be owned by someone who'll never let go until his hands are forcefully removed by the cold dead hand of the official receiver.
