Time to start ruben it in, lets see some Loftus cheek! - QPR (A) 30/03/19

A good result. I'm delighted for those who went.

Looking at it objectively, I know that it's very likely to have come too late. Another win next Saturday though, coupled with defeats for both of the clubs immediately above us, and out of nowhere, the run-in might just be worth following. Especially if a sensible takeover is completed before Wednesday.

Ps. I note that we played Williams and Connolly as a central midfield pairing again today. Together with the victory against Millwall, we've won two from two when they've been partnered with each other. It's obviously a minuscule sample size but two wins from two is no small thing when we've only won eight from thirty-nine. It might well be nothing more than a coincidence, but equally, we might well have found ourselves an effective, hard-working combination in the middle of the pitch. Having O'Neill to the right of them can only be a good thing as well. And with Lowe out injured, we avoid the risk of Parky breaking things up by trying to fit him in.

Sailing back up the m40 now with hope in my heart. Not for survival, too late for that but that we're still in there battling and mixing it up.

Midfield 3 were immense. Magennis worked like a trojan and Mattthews redeemed himself with some great keeping.

O'Neill mom. He's this year's Karl Henry

Looking at the highlights Ameobi looked involved and on one of his better days.

Agree on not squeezing square peg Lowe into another hole. He’s a wholehearted bloke and a hard worker but his ball retention is pretty fckin crap - suspect team benefitted from his injury.

Cracking header back across from Magennis for the first as well.

Ameobi was involved in both goals and it's certainly the best game I've seen him have in a while. He looked lost or dead on his feet by 65 minutes and it was the right decision to take him off

In his post-match interview on the official site (https://www.bwfc.co.uk/news/2019/march/ ... s-fixture/), Parky notes that he moved O'Neil "in one" to "stiffen" the midfield three. The 4-3-3 now seems our default, and if so, the midfield trio should be Gaz, Connolly and Williams. I know that some will say we should be blooding young Luca, and I can see why, but those three are our best hope. It's notable looking at their heat maps (https://www.whoscored.com/Matches/12902 ... ers-Bolton) how they were all over the place, in a good way:

They seem to have the understanding to cover each other and rotate about.

The defence more or less did its job today, helped by QPR gormlessly whacking the ball forward - the sort of thing Wheavers like. Matt Smith won more headers when he came on but Nakhi Wells' pace and trickery was always likely to be more of a bother, as indeed it proved.

The trouble, as ever, was up the sharp end. I like Magennis, but at this level he's not very good. Buckley is really not very good at all. Ameobi is in and out – today was one of his better days. But the relative heatmaps of the two teams tell a story:

We are, frequently, good enough to beat our relegation rivals. Wouldn't surprise me if we do Ipswich next week to raise hopes ever further. But then what? We've been atrocious against anybody above the bottom third...

Just looked at Wigan’s run in. And I repeat - what a set of wankers they are for turning up yesterday and not the Wigan game!

Looks like we might have terminated Second-Choice Schteve - Sky Sports saying (ie presumably reading off Twitter) that he's gone
