If there was an Oscar category for longest post, I'd obviously have to nominate that one!
Do you suffer from thumbache?
I'm on a computermabob
I still suffer, even on one of those. Tippy tapping on a phone is worse of course

I fancy us snapping up Tba from Sunderland. He'd fit right in.

Ibrahim? He's from a famous footballing family. HIs brothers play at Charlton, Villa, Derby, Leeds, West Brom and Hull, and his dad still turns out for Wigan.

Meanwhile, in honour of the departing Beevers who is definitely Of The Ilk, here's Harry Pearson on an archetype.

Villa and Derby still tba. So is Boro - possibly because Pulis left but they're still beholden to announce it.
LEEDS Lucas Odunston, Joshua Rae, Alex Wollerton
WEST BROM James Morrison, Gareth Barry, Boaz Myhill, Tyrone Mears, Wes Hoolahan
WIGAN Darron Gibson, Callum McManaman, Shaun MacDonald, Jonas Olsson, James Vaughan, Dan Lavercombe

^ McManaman and Vaughan, both showed glimpses of greatness but both really missed their way lately (the Sunderland effect?)

Those two and Josh Morris all bang on form please!

Aye, Vaughan, in particular, is one of those names I often hear and think should have got more out of the ability he had. For years I thought we might have presented each other with the perfect opportunity too. For us, he was an opportunity to inexpensively bring in a player who in the right circumstances could offer real quality and for him, we offered a proper platform on which to rebuild his career. It was only really at Bury where he reached his potential though, and I don't know enough about his time at other clubs to know whether that's a result of injuries or things just not falling for him (or both). But I wouldn't be unhappy if we offered him one last roll of the dice.

Thanks, DSb, I had a wonderful few minutes reading that.

I also noticed this on the same site:
https://www.wsc.co.uk/stories/14166-cou ... ttendances

You, being a stats man, have most likely read it already but others might find it interesting and reading it might well bring back memories of earlier days. Oh, I've been to test matches at the SCG and Sheffield Shield games at the same venue, but - ignoring the West Indies v Australia back in, what 1961? - my most fond memories are of local rugby matches with attendances of most certainly less than 1000; in fact anything over 150 would be a surprise. Entry to those games - $0. :)

Heh, lovely piece. I can identify. I too was amazed (age 12) when Burnley suddenly pulled in that many.

Glad you liked it. WSC is an important part of the history of football writing in this country.

So that's Pritchard gone

And another little kick in the swingers as they (quite correctly) bill us as a fellow League One club... :(

From Okocha, Djorkayeff and Campo, to losing players to Accrington Stanley. How are the mighty fallen.. :(

Those were the days. Last time we were in embargo, we were reduced to a ceiling of £4,500 weekly wage; Gaz's elapsing contract is (per The Sun) £75,000 per week. And good on him. I often wonder how different things might have been if Wenger hadn't shied away from signing him.

Not worth £750 a week; can't defend for toffee. Anyone remember Stoke 5 Bolton 0 at Wembley, plus countless other occasions? Sheff Utd might end up with him; his boyhood club. Good luck to them, or wherever he lands.

He had the (very) occasional 'mare but he spent the bulk of his time with us alongside Zat chuffing Knight!

Poor defenders don't get to play as often as he did for the national side, much less captain it. Top player and top man was Gaz

61 England caps, won the Champions League, won the UEFA Cup twice, two league titles.

I'd love to see someone who *could* defend for toffee.

He'll end up at Villa or Sheff Utd surely.

Are you serious? He's won every trophy possible and captained England.

Absolute nonsense to say he wasn't worth it. He's almost certainly our most successful export. Won everything and played at the highest level for nearly a decade.

Bolton interested in former Leicester City defender Alie Sesay on a free transfer.

I call bullsh*t on this.
Exactly who is interested?
One of the administration accountants?
