I thought you weren't working for FFT anymore, mate? Or is this a freelance gig?Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Wed Nov 13, 2019 10:24 amWe'll be away (cos we finished second) with a 43% chance of playing an Academy: Accrington Stanley, Blackpool, Port Vale, Salford City, Everton U21, Leicester City U21, Manchester United U21. Draw's on Saturday, game will be Tue 3 or Wed 4 Dec.
Accy, by the way, put five past Liverpool's kids - although most of the better teenagers were elsewhere in the first-team squad.
I done some words (before last night's games) on the state of play. Wolves went through, Spurs went out.

I'm freelance now - hack for hire: have keyboard, will travel. But I still offer them ideas. Writing a big piece for the first mag of the New Year, and boshed this one out for digitals while I was at it.Jugs wrote: ↑Wed Nov 13, 2019 10:29 amI thought you weren't working for FFT anymore, mate? At some point when I've shag all to do, I'm going to sit down and attempt to fathom out how this whole thing actually works

Give us 60 seconds for the main stuff:Bruce Rioja wrote: ↑Wed Nov 13, 2019 10:55 amAt some point when I've shag all to do, I'm going to sit down and attempt to fathom out how this whole thing actually works
TEAMS - 48 lower-division teams plus 16 top Academies = 64.
GROUPS - 16 four-team groups (eight north, eight south), each with one Academy in it.
QUALIFYING - Top two in each group go through to last 32 - group winners at home, group runners-up away; regionalised draw but you can't get the team you were in a group with (so no Citeh for us).
KNOCKOUTS - Straight one-match knockouts: no replays, no extra time, straight to pens, even for semis. No seeds after that first home/away. Last 32 and last 16 are regionalised, last eight (ie quarter-finals) onwards isn't. (Last year Pompey had to go to Bury for the one-off semi.)
...stop the clock.

A day out at Wembley would be a superb symbol of the club's rebirth...perhaps its in the stars?Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Wed Nov 13, 2019 2:03 pm...or to Exeter for a one-off quarter-final...BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Wed Nov 13, 2019 10:58 amOn the journey down to Wembley perhaps?Bruce Rioja wrote: ↑Wed Nov 13, 2019 10:55 amAt some point when I've shag all to do, I'm going to sit down and attempt to fathom out how this whole thing actually works

Are the kick off times going to be ‘normal’ in the knockouts? I’ve no hope of making a game until Wembley otherwise!

Cheers, Chief. Perfect. I also found the allocation of points in the group stage a little peculiar, however, so long as we amassed sufficient then it's "Wem-ber-leeeey' etc.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Wed Nov 13, 2019 2:02 pmGive us 60 seconds for the main stuff:Bruce Rioja wrote: ↑Wed Nov 13, 2019 10:55 amAt some point when I've shag all to do, I'm going to sit down and attempt to fathom out how this whole thing actually works

We've got Accrington away, either Tue 2 or Wed 3 Dec. As noted, they've done well (topping Liverpool's group).
As we're going there a week today in the league, we might also play them in two successive games - albeit with a 10-day gap - unless we can rearrange a league game on our empty FA Cup Second Round Saturday against Lincoln (who have their FA Cup 1st round replay at home to Ipswich, next Wed), Burton (FA1R home to Salford, next Tue) or Donny (FA1R home to Wimbledon, next Tue).
