Cautiously optimistic about both. Both played at a much higher level. John out of contract in the summer so potential to make permanent, and I'm the in position we have been screaming out for.
Reserving judgement more on Lee, not through pedigree just fitness. We've had so many of these in recent times. If he stays fit potentially a top signing though

Agreed. Both on paper seem like really good solid additions in areas we need. Fingers crossed they work out.Prufrock wrote: ↑Sat Jan 09, 2021 12:44 amCautiously optimistic about both. Ruh-roh.
Gethin's back in the XI, then - whichever formation.
I was wondering if we might get PK back later in January but the Luton fella James Bree, who went off in the 58th minute (after setting up the winner), was only making his third start of the season after long-term knee problems.

Very disappointing. But that's football. You loan players with a recall clause and it can happen. I'd not even bother with a right back. 4 at the back is now an imperative, Brockbank or Jones are adequate there. Get another striker in and another wide player (arguably need 2).

Aye. No point getting pissy about it, as some online Wanderers have. We'd do the same in their position.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Mon Jan 11, 2021 11:21 amVery disappointing. But that's football. IMO definitely pushes us toward a back four as Gethin/Brocky both more of a full-back than a wing-back... unless Evatt has a Damascene conversion on Hickman.

Yep - the lad was a good player for us, arguably, probably our best. Not sure he's championship material yet though.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Mon Jan 11, 2021 11:23 amAye. I'd like to see us sign more physical athletes like him though, his pace, power and aerial ability gave us an outlet. We need to sign wide players with those sorts of attributes - sometimes you need an out ball.

Been saying for weeks, a new RWB should be our top priority this window!
Re: Making HMS YouKnowWhat ship-shape: Winter 20/21 transfer thread
Well the last 6 mins he played for us were eventful!

Bollocks, that is bad news.
Jones is a capable enough defensive right back, but we're now short of pace and attacking threat on that side. If we are going to move to four at the back then we definitely need to bring in at least one more wide forward.

They may well be, but would be surprised if it happened.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Mon Jan 11, 2021 11:57 amNixon: "Northampton. Keen on Kioso at Luton after his Bolton loan exit."

Also Twitter comments suggesting John is injured in training, which would be a bugger. Particularly as I have little hope that Lee will play much due to injury.

Twitter is now suggesting that Declan John has hurt his hamstring in training...
Back to square one if that is the case.

We won't have much of a selection headache at this rate.

I wouldn't be amazed, if Luton's other RBs come back. He's done well in D4, so why not try D3, and five times nearer home? And if he does well there, then maybe he's ready top step up to Champo next season. If I were Nathan Jones I'd be happier with that arrangement.LeverEnd wrote: ↑Mon Jan 11, 2021 12:20 pmThey may well be, but would be surprised if it happened.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Mon Jan 11, 2021 11:57 amNixon: "Northampton. fecking hell, both wingbacks gone in a morning. This club is cursed. We’re in trouble now.

It’s bad news but Evatt himself acknowledges this is the risk of signing players in January who haven’t been playing. Especially ones training with U23s.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Mon Jan 11, 2021 12:52 pmDeclan John injury confirmed by Ilesy - "could be out for a month"

Not that you often have a lot of choice. But when people bemoan our luck over the last decade much of it is self made. Relying on players who get injured. Not being adaptable. Not being able to sign players in peak form and fitness. If for example Lee breaks down it would hardly be surprising. It’s a risk. But the balance so far is we have far too many risks.

Kioso in my opinion has been our most effective player so far this season. Tough loss for us. No like for like replacement in the squad but fortunately with Broky, Jones and Hickman we have coverage. John's injury another kick in the teeth. We are paying for someone's sin in the past apparently.
