Will we be at the races? Cheltenham (h) Saturday 16 Jan 15:00 KO (GMT)
Less confident about home games than I am always at the moment. Long throw merchants, and will be up for revenge after our late show at their place. Still, they weren’t all that...
I’m thinking new signing Declan John is going to play. Evatts thrown supposedly injured players in before and I’m predicting he was a C-19 isolator,?not a hammy.

Quotes from Evatt's presser.
Via bwfc:
Via bwfc:
via Jack Dearden:"We’re progressing well and we’re hoping that we have some movement in the window soon; we’ll be doing business right up until the last day of the window."
"For me at the moment, we’re not controlling games with possession the way I want us to. We need to be better and braver in possession and stop trying to score in one breath."
"We’re [COVID-]tested twice a week and all squad members were negative which is great news. If we can’t celebrate goals and it is not deemed safe enough, then stop us playing as far as I’m concerned."
"'The players are in good spirits and as I said on Tuesday the point is only a good one if we go out and win tomorrow. We’ll be doing all we can to do that."
"We seem to play our best football when we get hurt and get angry. We need to start games with that mentality and not wait to go behind in matches."
On transfers
"We are progressing, we are hoping to have some movement coming soon really. I think we’ll be doing business right up to the last day of the window, both in and out”
On recruitment
"Because of how the summer went we are having to do more than I would have liked in January For many reasons we were unprepared. The nature of the recruitment wasn’t great it wasn’t thought and planned well enough because we had no players.
“Would we have signed the same players at the start of pre season as we would at the end? The answer's no, but we had to because we didn’t have any players in the building – we couldn’t take that risk of waiting that long."
“We're trying our best now to put a real structure in place, build a data place [?database?] of talent we haven’t got, and start looking towards the next window and the window after that."
“For me there should be three key players for every position: a starter, a back-up and a development player – that’s what we need to start implementing at Bolton Wanderers."
On conceding first
"I think our record in the last 25 minutes of games is exceptional so it shows you that we’re fit, first and foremost. There has to be mentality, character and personality we have to pay like that from minute one."
"When we have done we’ve got the right results and we’ve controlled games, but often this season we’ve waited for someone to score against us we have to change that around."
"We’re not controlling games in the way I want to. We’re trying to score in one breath all the time. It's kind of you attack, we attack – we don’t have any control with possession. We need to be better and braver and help us to control the game through possession."
On COVID
"We’re being tested twice a week. What’s the difference between a goal celebration, marking at a corner, marking at a set piece, marking in general play. How do you differentiate from that to celebrating a goal? What are we doing here? If we can’t celebrate goals stop us playing as far as I’m concerned. We’re asking to take all the character and personality out of the game, that’s not the spirit of the competition."

This is the one, Cheltenham are out of form - not won in 5 apparently ? (yes, I know that we are normally the gift that keeps giving etc.) but tomorrow is the day it all clicks, 2 x more new signings, including a Craig Dawson type new CB (wishful thinking)
4-1 Bolton.
4-1 Bolton.

I make Billy Crellin look like Buffon unfortunately.

If we win 4-1 could you say 6 numbers between 1 and 50. Just as an experiment of course.Bertie Wooster wrote: ↑Fri Jan 15, 2021 5:11 pmThis is the one, Cheltenham are out of form - not won in 5 apparently ? Both loanees start. So does Thomason. Tutte, Brocky and Delf out of the XI.

A few things that jump out:
1. Finally some strength in depth
2. No goalkeeper on the bench again
3. Surprisingly no Tutte - it would seem harsh to have dropped him so I can only assume he struggles to play twice in such a short space of time
4. Arthur must feel (somewhat justifiably) annoyed he's bothered to make the short journey from his house

Dropping Tutte (on bench) seems madness.
The away match vs this lot is the only game we won without him starting.
Hope the left back is strong and good in the air.

It's interesting that Evatt started Greenidge when we played them the first time in an effort to counteract the expected aerial bombardment yet second time round he's nowhere to be seen.

No keeper on the bench. Not sure if that’s preferable to Crellin to be honest.

Everybody frightened me he would start with Santos, I’m glad to be honest. I would have been tempted to start with Brockbank as an extra centre half to defend set pieces but I have no idea what this new chap is like.nicholaldo wrote: ↑Sat Jan 16, 2021 2:25 pmofficer_dibble wrote: ↑Sat Jan 16, 2021 2:19 pmDropping Tutte (on bench) seems madness.

He's good with it. It's not a school day and the other half just had a shit load of jobs for him to do.nicholaldo wrote: ↑Sat Jan 16, 2021 2:13 pm4. Arthur must feel (somewhat justifiably) annoyed he's bothered to make the short journey from his house

delfs missus makes him do the night feeds
Arthur’s missus has him pegged for the school run
We need to sign some 1970s style blokes not afraid to put their women in their place!

According to the BN it's a 4-3-3 formation but with the players selected could it be more of a 4-2-3-1?

Not really sure why Tutte misses out. Not exactly who provides support to Doyle. Perhaps time for Isgrove to show what he can do?

Doubt he'd drop Tutte unless he has to, so he must be knacked. Doyle has two wide attackers (Isgrove and Elbouzedi) for support, as per the 4-3-3 plan. (It could be a 4-2-3-1 with presumably Sarce at 10 but I'd expect the midfield triangle to be the other way round with Thomason behind Sarce and Lee.)
For the record, today's lineup:
Gilks; Jones, Santos, Delaney, Jackson; Thomason, Sarce, Lee; Isgrove, Doyle, Elbouzedi.
Subs: Baptiste, Brockbank, Mascoll, Tutte, Crawford, Gnahoua, Delfouneso.
