Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Thread.
In terms of a player who can play across the front three this makes a lot of sense. He’s also a player three years ago we’d have literally chewed our arms off to sign. So it’s a risk as he’s been bobbins lately but he’s played for bobbins teams. Right sort of player in terms of positional coverage and variety though. In Evatt we trust.

New lad reminds me a little of Wildschutt. Both in appearance and where he's at career wise.
The same opening day impact he had would be lovely.

Never heard of him. No idea if he'll be good. Look forward to seeing him. Cool name. Triffic.

So I don't have your encyclopedic knowledge of efl players, what of it?
How long is his contract, anyone know?

Nixon:
“Winger James McClean is a target for local rivals Wigan and Bolton. The Stoke star, 32, can move and Latics are keen on a return to the club for him. But Wanderers are also trying to set up a deal.”
He's 32 – not exactly the younger profile Evatt has targeted - and currently training with Stoke's U23s. Last year of contract. Played for Wigan before, 2013-15.

He's an utter wanker - google him.
Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Thread.
I'd be v wary. No idea where he's at as a player, but he was excellent. Given the atmosphere around the club atm though I just think it would be unnecessarily divisive. I don't think that's really his fault, most (but not all) of the issues are about the poppy. I sympathise with his position, but plenty don't. Really important to keep the fans and players on the same team at the moment.

Out of interest why do you sympathise with his position as an IRA sympathiser - pictured with a balaclava on in front of his kids.Prufrock wrote: ↑Sun Aug 15, 2021 11:07 amI'd be v wary. Has he spat at fans? Done 116mph on a motorway? Driven without a licence, getting involved in a car crash and getting sentenced to community service? Players who did that were lauded as heroes by Bolton fans.Bertie Wooster wrote: ↑Sun Aug 15, 2021 11:03 amHe's an utter wanker - google him.
I don't think he's right for the club, but not particularly for off-field reasons.

Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Thread.
I agree with Bertie, only, my reasoning is simply that I don't think we need a winger. Not as a priority anyway.

Indeed not, with Amaechi to return too.Bruce Rioja wrote: ↑Sun Aug 15, 2021 11:19 ammy reasoning is simply that I don't think we need a winger. Not as a priority anyway.
If we were to loan a winger, I'd prefer a young one who is going to rip the division a new arse - as per last season with Forest's Brennan Johnson for Lincoln or QPR's Olamide Shodipo, both scoring double figures - and might just maybe join us in the future. Sort of a Dapo Plus, if you will.
Much better business than a 32-year-old, IMO. I still feel we're a man light in the front four of a 4-2-3-1 - but if we have switched to a 4-3-3, as seems to be the case, maybe not. And we seem to be targeting players (Baka, Kachunga) who can do more than one job; McClean is "just" a left-winger.

I was talking about his position on the poppy.Bertie Wooster wrote: ↑Sun Aug 15, 2021 11:10 amOut of interest why do you sympathise with his position as an IRA sympathiser - pictured with a balaclava on in front of his kids.Prufrock wrote: ↑Sun Aug 15, 2021 11:07 amI'd be v wary. The balaclava was a joke. A crass silly one, and one he apologised for, but it was clearly meant as a joke. To call him an IRA sympathiser is a hell of a stretch. As DSB says, we've lauded people who have done far, far worse.
As for whether we need him, I think you want at least 6 across that front 3. We have six at the moment with Amaechi assuming Politic and Darcy go out on loan. Depends whether we think we'll get much out of Amaechi. McClean can play both sides. Don't think LW is Kachunga's best position, he didn't seem to want to go outside yesterday. Not convinced Baka is a winger either, looks to be "doing a job" there.

Can he play either side? I can't recall him on the right, but then I can't recall what I had for tea on ThursdayPrufrock wrote: ↑Sun Aug 15, 2021 11:43 amAs for whether we need him, I think you want at least 6 across that front 3. Still think 32 is a risk, but I suppose having one or two older heads can't hurt. Or maybe in this case it can...
Anyway, Iles tweets:
"Asked about James McClean links to #bwfc this morning. Getting unanimous shakes of the head. Don't think there's anything in it."
Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Thread.
I've definitely seen him play there, I think for Stoke and maybe Ireland. Remembering how effective he was is, alas, beyond me.
I had a pork roll, at Lord's
He wouldn't be my first choice either, but the calibre is there. He's played over 100 games in the past 3 seasons (though diminishing numbers, perhaps though losing favour) so fitness doesn't seem to be a problem.
The Google bio front page gives his place of birth as "Londonderry" which made me smile
