I’m not convinced he’s going to work out there. He openly struggled on his last full championship season - I think he talked about quitting. The fact he stayed and did such a good job last season is obviously a fantastic achievement, but I think Derby are still in the phase where they want the full package, great football, best team in the league and might have to swallow their pride a bit first.
That's something that crossed my mind but I have no feel for. Are they at the "just happy to have a club we're not arsed about being Barcelona" stage, it still got delusions of the next Brian Clough coming along.

I'm not hugely worried in that they've got an odd squad with lots of quality but also big gaps, and we saw last year that if one department in your team isn't up to it, you won't get v far in this league. If they're still in touch come January I'd be more concerned.

I think their admin was over too quick, they needed years of Ken Anderson!

The Cowley brothers have been shown the door at Pompey. We play Portsmouth 10th January in the Papa John's Trophy and then the 14th in the league.

Blimey. Didn’t see that coming but it suggests the club have bigger ambitions. Interesting that it comes in January - maybe the board were asked for more money than they think was warranted. But it leaves another rival in disarray - and potentially looking to shuffle players out…?

Takes all my time following me own club but are there any Pompey players that could do a job for us?

You know how to hook me in... :D
Bit busy today but I might have a look at some point. Sometimes it's not so much who we might lift - the board will be unlikely to sanction the loss of assets, the new manager will probably want the best players, and the players might stick around to check out the new guy - as looking at players obviously unfancied by a new manager. I keep meaning to check if Warne has ostracised any Derby players, for instance.

Then you have the "familiar face" notion - where if Player X is available, he's more likely to play for his old manager. I can't remember who now but a couple of theoretical signings I checked out had played for the Cowleys at Lincoln, so if they were to be loaned out, they'd probably go there, etc. Not the case now.

Ah, that's an easy one. It'll be anyone who isn't 6'2", built like a brick shithouse and can still sprint within Olympic qualifying times. :)

Ha! Or anyone who doesn't like bob-hats.

(But yeah - I wondered about Barkhuizen.... still playing for now, but may not still be in favour by February...)

Not sure he set the world alight vs us...(Barkhuizen)...obviously only one game, but I wasn't sat there thinking we'd missed a true gem..

He didn't, but then he was playing as the left-sided midfielder in a Paul Warne 4-4-2.

All correct, sir....but even taking that into account, you can still tackle well, pass well etc. etc. even if you don't set the place alight. He didn't.

True enough. I feared he might blaze with purpose, but he barely fizzled.

Another one bites the dust. Let’s hope neither Pompey or Peterborough have a new manager bounce :?

Thanks for some sterling research work D.S.B and the time you've obviously put in doing it. Football (and more importantly owners) are hardly the most patient of folk when their assets are at stake. Don't end the season as winners, so sack the managers as it must be their fault and not that of their millionaire hirelings. Failing that, sack the owners is the fans anthem. Seam some are predicting season end placings already. Who'd be a football manager? Not I sir, thank you.

And a nice boost for Sat is that Plymouth have been dealt a massive blow by Swansea recalling their young striker Morgan Whittaker. Think he's scored 9 and assisted 7 this season.

Yeah, hopefully Whittaker won't be the last player recalled from Plymouth. Last time I looked, Birmingham striker Sam Cosgrove had 10 goals, Villa schemer Finn Azaz had scored 6 and made 3 before ankle-knack in late October, and Norwich wing-back Bali Mumba had scored 4 league goals and assisted 7 – again, a new manager at Carrow Road might just be tempted to recall.

Posh and Pompey both pushing the obvious button after disappointing first halves. Posh operate differently to Pompey in that they have longer-terms plans, with Barry Fry as Director of Football and player budgets under Darragh MacAnthony's tight leash, eg listing all players in final year of contract.

But it's rarely a bad thing for rivals to be in disarray.

Oh, for our club to be under the steady footballing stewardship of a man who's poor managerial skills he tried to pass off as being the ill-doings of a Gypsy curse, to be combatted by taking a piss in the four corners of the pitch.
