Dixon potentially was actually better than Crellin, although a tallest vertically challenged person analogy comes to mind.

Re: Snog, Marry, Avoid: Summer 2023 Transfer Window
Couple of quick thoughts. One, Baxter was a loanee at Hull (first time) simultaneously with Di'Shon Bernard. Just saying.
Two, squad numbers. Bit early yet but y'know, I'm bored. #1 is available - weirdly. has been since Crellin left: Dixon took 12, Traf preferred 19. Nathan Baxter wore 13 in his two Hull loan spells, and for various Chelsea youth teams, but he did also wear 1 for Chelsea kids and indeed Accrington. At Hull, Matt Ingram was the senior keeper a(and on a permanent deal) so he inherited George Long's No.1 top; the loanee took 13. But given the opportunity, and the fact we're his first permanent move, I'd expect him to take the 1.
Joel Coleman progressed from 33 to 13 to 1 at Oldham, then took 13 at Huddersfield and again at Ipswich. He was 1 at Shrewsbury and Fleetwood on loan, but he seems happy at 13 so I'd say that makes sense.
Other currently vacant numbers at 11, 13, 15, 17, 19 (striker?), 20 (was Lee), 21, 23 (was Izzy) and 24 (Kacha). 23 was Dabo's number at Cov, out of interest...

Wilson would be a very exciting signing if we can keep him fit. I listened to him on a Forest Green podcast about 18 months ago and he mentioned how he used to have knee issues at West Brom as a youngster, however that completely cleared up when switching to a vegan diet at Forest Green. The fact he’s had knees problem(s) again at Bristol City is slightly concerning to me.
Electric going forward but isn’t the bravest defensively so he’s not going to be flying into tackles winning the ball back like Conor Bradley. High ceiling though if we get him playing with confidence - should have plenty of opportunity to impress himself on games in this side as we saw with Bradley and I’d say Wilson is better in the final third than the Liverpool youngster.
Dacres-Cogley is one I’ve been keeping an eye on over the past season and is on my RWB shortlist. He’ll be good steady L1 player so a smart bit of business. Shows up well in the stats - a really solid all round option who’s just as comfortable at RB as he is at RWB.

Re: Snog, Marry, Avoid: Summer 2023 Transfer Window
If we're going to be pessimistic about Wilson for a minute, then the knee injury is the big issue. His game is based largely on running, dribbling and shaping the ball - the three things most impacted by a knee injury. Because Bristol haven't really played him since he got hurt, we don't know what we're getting.
Randell, though much improved, wasn't the dynamic player he was at Exeter - following a similar injury. If he and Wilson were both at their best for us next season we'd need to offer counselling to opposition fullbacks after games, but we just can't know.

Derby sign Joe Ward, which is about as Derby a signing as a signing can be.
Will probably be excellent for them.

And Rotherham goalie Josh Vickers - another mentioned on this thread, and another they might feel can do a job a division up.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Tue Jun 20, 2023 3:04 pmDerby sign Joe Ward, which is about as Derby a signing as a signing can be.

A late bloomer from League Two. Looks an excellent addition if we also add Wilson, as he's basically always fit and is reputed to be a good egg. Trains well and has improved dramatically with game time. He's fairly quick, has solid technique (and touch) and he doesn't mean sticking his foot in.officer_dibble wrote: ↑Tue Jun 20, 2023 4:18 pmWho is Josh Cogley? Another genuine never heard of link!
With Wilson in there as your "potential star" and JDC as your steady Eddy it's hard to fault. He's another who you'd definitely have in a "bargain 11" this summer.

You have to be happy with our business (and rumoured incomings) so far, Ghost?
All this is before having (hopefully) the pick of loans from top academies. That will be putting the tiara on the shire horse!

We still need extra quality up front and that physical midfield type. And a ‘number 10’ or some sort of goal scoring midfield player.
I’d say that if we sign the two wing backs mooted and add three in with quality in those areas we will be pretty well set in theory. Then we see how they perform and whether they can stay fit.
Pearson didn’t like Wilson cos he was ‘an attacking wing back not defensively minded’ which for me is exactly what we need. So if he can stay fit that is a plus.

What are we expecting the fee for Wilson to be?
Injury concerns, seemingly out of favour, but with two years on his contract to run.
(I know it'll be announced as undisclosed)

The man with the greatest name in football, Keanu Baccus, is now linked by the usually reliable Daily Record.

Re: Snog, Marry, Avoid: Summer 2023 Transfer Window
Quite a week.
Baccus - a Saffer by birth, Aussie international - is a defensive midfielder who only moved to Scotland last year. “ Baccus is going into the final year of his contract and the Buddies have shown in the past that if the price is right then they will listen to offers. The Paisley club sold Dylan Reid to Crystal Palace and Ethan Erhahon to Lincoln City both for significant six figure transfers with significant add ons last season. That is part of the St Mirren plan to develop players and sell them on.”
After playing in the World Cup he was linked to other Rangers, Boro and Norwich last transfer window and has been linked with Blackpool this. Seems to find Scotland chilly, which is reasonable when you lived in Sydney from before the age of one.

Wilson’s injuries - was he unlucky last season or is he more frequently injured?
