5 now, and if they don't lose tomorrow, it doesn't really matter.

Add another goal to the against column. Sloppy defending again.
We've had loads of unnecessary goals conceded.
and add another to the for column. JDB, after decent work from Ashworth. Crazy pass from Tomason but its a goal!

Back to four. Lots of good. Lots to tighten up. Overplayed a lot today given GD could be important. These are hopeless.

Oh my, Dempsey's not going to get an easy chance than that for quite some time.

Just checking in, what a cracking game.

And yet still with a curiously hollow feeling, complaints abound...
Last five home games we've scored 2, 3, 2, 5 & 5. Clearly we need to cut out the daft concessions but we can use this batch of home games to put pressure on Derby. And even if we don't catch them, we can be in good form for the playoffs, hopefully with our top striker and higher-division goalkeeper back on board. We'll see. Script's not written yet.
Re: Not between the lines...V Reading at home Monday Apr 1st 3-0;clock
Reading's still got Lincoln and Barnsley to go in the next few weeks. Not looking good for us gaining on the chasing pack with Reading being as poor as they were today.
Still our 5-2 win is better than Derby's 2-1.
Comes back to the we're third because of slip ups like the Reading away.

We've now got to do something we've done once in 8(?) games and win away. Hoping Bristol Rovers are on the beach already.

All we can do is concentrate on our own games and let the rest sort themselves out.
We probably need to win all our games and I very much doubt that Derby would match that.

Home results looking good.
Massive contrast in fortunes between the home and away results.
Pick up points away from home should see us in contention. Bristol Rovers and Peterborough left to go.

Not to be prematurely positive (because I know that won’t do in these parts) but if Portsmouth do beat Derby, then of course their goal difference reduces accordingly. Aaaaand we’d be back to a game in hand. That could easily cause quite a swing in the GD column in a short amount of time

Enjoyed that. played well - top squirters ! Collins & JDB, it was obviously reverse psychology from Evatt all along and it worked. It does make you wonder though after today & Oxford why we can't play like that more consistently ?
Re: Not between the lines...V Reading at home Monday Apr 1st 3-0;clock
I sense a whiff of optimism and I like it. Just imagine the feeling next week if we beat Bristol Rovers after Derby lose to Pompey. We wouldn't know what to do with ourselves.Jeux sans frontiéres wrote: ↑Mon Apr 01, 2024 5:41 pmNot to be prematurely positive (because I know that won’t do in these parts) but if Portsmouth do beat Derby, then of course their goal difference reduces accordingly. Just do that in the remaining 5 and leave the other teams worry about their results.

Re: Not between the lines...V Reading at home Monday Apr 1st 3-0;clock
Well not really considering Derby also lost there
It's been a funny old season, because nobody's perfect.
We shouldn't have lost 3-1 at home to Carlisle.
(Posh did, but Derby/Pompey didn't.)
We shouldn't have dropped 6pts to our midtable neighbours.
(Although they also did the double on Posh and won at Derby.)
We shouldn't have lost to Bristol Rovers.
(Although they also beat Pompey.)
Looking over our season, perhaps the biggest hole is the away results - Lincoln is our only win away to any of the (current) top half. D4, L5, with one to go (total is 11 because we don't play ourselves away - we'd get hammered).
Add in that Derby don't play next weekend because Wycombe are at Wembley. (if 1) if they lose to tomorrow and
(if 2) if we win at Bristol and
(if 3) the goal swing in those two games is 4 or more... then we're back in the autos. (Derby have a game in hand, which they'd play at Wycombe the following Wednesday, but it would still sting.)
