Saw this earlier and thought I'd bump this thread. Anyone want to argue that 12 goals in 24 games isn't value? Granted he took a while to get into his stride, but he's not doing too bad now is he?

Yes, I am just bored and looking for some debate... The Chelsea game bored me to tears...

I wanted him. Thought that 4 million was good value. 7 million? A luxury only a "big" club could afford. He's a decent player. But my feeling still stands. Use him to score or play on the deck fine. Just dont even compare him to Davies in the versatility department or the holding the ball up skill.

He would be brilliant for us, we should have snapped him up before he went to the Saints, yes he is frustrating, but he is better than Heskey, Vassell, obviously not Davies, Alan Smith etc and I would take him to the World Cup without a doubt. I agree with the above, 7mill is too much but for 4-5mill he is a good player.

7mill could buy you Smith, Kleberson, x2 Djemba Djembas, Silvestre, Evra, Vidic, I could go on.

He looks alright to me, pacy, strong, good eye for the ball. Just a liability in the air because of his height. I also think Vidic has the raw ability, it's just that he is raw, and his distribution is abysmal at the moment. Is he Slur Alex's answer? I don't know, but he looks a decent player.

i like this game

Glen Hysen
David James
Morientes
Baros

You never saw Facey play? He was a dynamo, admittedly not on a par with Isiah Rankin, but good nonethless :)

We only signed Glen Hysen to stop United getting him. Bad move. Although he did tend to but the ball in the net quite a bit.

James was a clown. Morientes is a world class striker, one of the best in Europe, we just haven't seen what he can do and I don't think we will now sadly. His ability is there for all to see.

Baros - we paid £3.5 million and sold him for £5.5 million. £2 million profit for someone I was sad to see leave, but can't look up... not bad. Never let us down.

And even Isiah Rankin is surely no Jon Otsemobor ;)

He was actually a decent prospect until then, he made his debut in a Fizzy Pop Cup tie against Southampton in 2002 and looked very accomplished.

Agreed on:

Dicks
Ruddock
Wright (although he came through the set up)
Westerveld
Harkness (wasn't THAT bad but wasn't great either)
Hysen
Leo
Traore
Heskey (in the last 2 years of his Liverpool career)

I have issues with:

Rob Jones - would still be England's best right back now, but for serious and repeated injury. Talented footballer.
Marsh - a decent stopgap.
Venison and Ablett - experience in a young team.
Biscan - IGOR, IGOR, IGOR! Cult figure. And an essential part of our run to Istanbul.
Camara - scored 12 in his first season, was only sold because he moaned about not being played. Never let us down, a bit of something different. One of my favourite players when there.
Rosenthal - a very good player. Underrated, IMO. So what, he made THAT miss against Villa?
Matteo - crazy selection from yourself, IMO. Was knocking on several England squad doors, just wanted to play in the middle so he was sold. To Leeds. Where he also played left back.... Has gone downhill a lot since he left but was a very good player in his day.

One of our lowest ebbs. Fantastic result for Bolton though, and totally deserved.
