I get why he’s doing it. If he wants everyone else to play without fear and take bowlers on, he needs to be seen to be doing it. He just seems to be verging on the reckless.

Aye, I nearly said trying too hard. I don't think either of us are suggesting blow the dust of the MCC coaching guide and learn to block, young man.

A good session for England. Always happy to see Smith waddle off...

I fear that no ball has turned this test completely. Aussies in driving seat here.

It is what I feared. Our attack doesn’t have the options on flat tracks to break partnerships.

Mad how we apparently didn't get enough yesterday. And they've had the better of today. But it's pretty much even...

I don’t think it’s even. I think they are ahead. The pitch is flat. We aren’t taking 5 for nowt and I expect them to have a decent lead. They have to bat last but I think our only problem is the fitness of our bowlers and suitability for these conditions. Robinson looking rusty and maybe not fully fit. Jimmy isn’t suited to this track at all.

Stokes can bowl but is physically limited.

If we had properly fit Archer and Wood and were playing one of them I’d have fancies us to skittle these for about 300 and be back batting now.

And I don’t like him but Vaughan has summed it up it’s the first day in the field and already Englands attack looks tired. Not an attack that’s going to come and blow the Aussies away second innings. And that’s an issue cos their attack is younger and fitter and fresher.

You could have told the Oz last week and then we could have surrendered and saved them a lot of money travel expenses by staying home. We could have sent the urn by parcel post quite cheaply. I really hope we don't spoil things for you by winning. That really would urinate on the kangaroo burgers.

Happy Father's Day....

How many chances are we going to put down?

This test is done. Finito. Bowling isn’t fit enough. And putting chances down has killed us. Plus the No ball.

Really efficienctly done there. One innings game.

Huge amount turns on the rest of today. You'll think we'll go hard. Well either rattle into a big lead and scoreboard pressure. Or.... Eesh.

Prime time for a collapse

Mate, we don't collapse. We'd just get to 126 all out, quickly and call it an aggressive target, leaving ourselves 2 days to bowl 'em out. Do keep up! :-)

Depending on how the rain impacts the pitch the break might be good for England as they need to make sure their bowlers get rest.

What’s a winning score here? I’m not sure it’s easy to predict. Not in the modern game on a pitch that is mainly going to be a threat for spin. But can Moeen bowl much?
