England captain John Terry has been taken to hospital after receiving a sickening blow to the head during the Carling Cup final.
The Chelsea defender was accidentally kicked in the face by Arsenal's Abou Diaby as he tried to head the ball inside the Gunners penalty area.

The injury happened after 56 minutes of the final with the score at 1-1.

Medical staff from both clubs helped put Terry in a neck brace and he was carried off with an oxygen mask.

Fans of both teams at the Millennium Stadium, who had been hushed as Terry lay very still in the wake of the blow to his head, applauded the England skipper from the field.

There was blood on Terry's face as soon as the incident happened and he seemed to be possibly unconscious at first, although before leaving the field it looked as though he was responding to questions.

Terry had only just recovered from damaged ankle ligaments, which he suffered in the Champions League tie at Porto, to play in the final.

He was carried off seven minutes into that game but recovered quicker than medical staff expected.

LOL at Mourinho and Wenger running on to break up the brawl. Terrific stuff.

Bad for Terry. Hope he recovers.

terry has been in the wars this season

impressed with both clubs today in different ways, arsenal may have lost but the young side they put out more than acquitted themselves against top opposition, first half they looked like they did against us at the reebok in the replay, a talented team playing great football and too quick for their opposition, a bright future there indeed

chelsea get all kinds of mud slung at them for the amount of money they throw about and the attitude they adopt sometimes, but by god do they have some team spirit there, when terry went off they could have wilted but they seemed to step up a gear to try to win it for their captain, and the winner was a fabulous header, drogba has been a cut above this season, you can draw obvious parallels between him and ronaldo at man utd for dragging their teams forward in the race for the title

was a sickening blow and given it was right on his jaw he could be very seriously hurt. He was struggling as he hit the deck and seemed to be slightly convulsing. Not good.

it looked like his face just went grey/black as he lay on the floor, i could tell straight away he was out. Horrendous incident.

that Photo makes it looks like Baptista is kicking him with Diaby.
