It's got nothing on the Boston Marathon though.

Good Luck. I could never do a Marathon, don't worry about water they have thousands of volunteers taking care of that stuff.

There are quite a few marathon/serious distance runners on RAWK, Commie - could dig out a link to a couple of threads on there where people have been chatting about training and whatnot if you'd like

Doubtlessly out-numbered by fencers though!

I've just invested in two training guides and two people here did London on Sunday, so I should be ok.

I've still not got my entry for NY confirmed, so have also signed up for the Great North Run in September, should be a light jog to me by then

Unlikely Commie, I don't hold grudges. Will gladly buy him a pint when he is finished the GNR. And anyone else on here who does it. :P

Not taken that crazy-ass leap and done the full marathon, did a half one just before easter though. All I'll say is PACE YOURSELF, going to fast at the start when you feel good is a nail in your metaphorical coffin.

I managed a full one when a was 20 years old in Germany. There is something about completing a marathon that does something to a man's character (you'll see) the last three miles were the worst, and it's that strength of character that takes you home. All I'll say is whenever you see people holding out small cartons of water, grab the bugger! Even if it's not meant for you!

The very best of luck to you Commie, I look forward to congratulating you when it's done!

I remember Jim Peters collapsing 180 yards short of the finish line in Empire games in Vancouver in about 1954. Heat prostration and dehydration and he had a three mile lead. When they had the Commonwealth Games there again a few years back, Jim came and ran the last 180 yards. Touching moment.
Once you 'hit the wall' theres no recovery, not even for such a small distance
There's hurdles to get over too?? Jeesh!!
No, you're forced to listen to non-stop Pink Floyd...

Good luck Commie, careful filling in the information on the plane ride over there...

Word of advice from a relative of mine who's done one - he says never underestimate the little things, like having your name on your shirt/vest. He said the lift he got from everyone geeing him on and the crowd noticing and shouting his name and things really helped.
