England vs West Indies
England actually doing well for once.
Declared on 553-5, with four players getting centuries
I'd always rated the West Indies as a good side, but they seem to be struggling here.
It'll probably rain now so the match won't finish, but nice to see an improvement

Not entirely sure about that atm. I think the South African's would give us a good run for our money and the Indian test series this summer will be a close one. Although I agree, my club side would give this Windies team a good game....CAPSLOCK wrote:They are

Seeing as England are the second best - only to Australia - this series was only going one way, even moreso when Lara retired

2004 winter was quite a while back and when England were at their peak....Tombwfc wrote:We're second in the rankings, and we've beaten SA in a test series fairly recently.

Looking good in second test. 498-6, Pietersen on 189. Probably let him reach 200, then declare -weather forecast not promising.

We could also do with Jones back showing the form he had during the ashes. Harmison just isn't cutting the mustard.CAPSLOCK wrote:I actually think our batting has moved on since 2004
We've also added Panesar to our attack
Yes, we need Flintoff fit and firing, but I think we're a better team now than in 2004
(When fit and firing)
Flintoff
Panesar
Jones
Hoggard.
Not a bad bowling strikeforce at all!
Our batting in test cricket is on par with the very best. If only we could get our best bowlers all fit, on form and in the same starting eleven for once.

Harmison will never hit his peak again. 2005 was his year.
Simon Jones will never be the same bowler again - too many injuries.
Flintoff will always be Flintoff i.e. a Lancastrian piss head who never performs fully. Like Harmison, his year was 2005.
Harmison, IMO, shouldn't be near the England squad after his "I'll play when its convenient for me, and when its not I'll watch the Lads. Ho'way!" stance.
Next England attack should be:
Onions, Plunkett, Panesar, Anderson and Broad.
That is the future of England bowling attacks.
Harmison, Flintoff and Vaughan all need a full season of county cricket under their belts.

Yes 'tis sad. They used to be an utterly fearsome side. Sad decline and I can't see any hope for the future either.Bruce Rioja wrote:Is it only me that's saddened by how utterly shite the West Indies have become? Not taking anything away from our lads or owt, but on a day when its so bloody obvious that the balls going to be all over the place they're chasing everything!

Had a terrific day out on Saturday. Great cricket, great West Stand banter.
