For wrestling fans

Post by Montreal Wanderer » Tue Jun 26, 2007 12:55 pm

Chris Benoit, the rabid wolverine, killed his wife and 7 yr old son, then committed suicide yesterday. Sad story of which I have no further details at the moment.

Woah there Monty. That's what is assumed at the moment. To state it as fact is still quite presumptuous at this juncture. It was extremely shocking and saddening when I heard of the news last night. Watching Raw was very difficult to watch. It was a nice move from Vince Mcmahon to open the show up when of course in storyline terms he is presumed dead.

Very shocking to hear the details surrounding this tragedy. If it is indeed true, well then it tarnishes and destroys the legacy of one of the greatest in ring performers of all time.

Thanks for that insightful comment. Really appropiate.

And for what it's worth I don't think Benoit was involved in taking steroids at all.

The number of wrestlers who have died prematurely in recent years seems to back up the point...

Sherri - Macho mans sidekick (died only last week)
Bruiser Brody
Adrian Adonis
Dino Bravo
Louie Spicoli
Brian Pillman
Junkyard Dog
Ravishing Rick Rude
The Renegade
Owen Hart
“Mr. Perfect” Curt Hennig
Miss Elizabeth
Yokozuna
The British Bulldog
The Sheik
“Classie” Freddie Blassie
Stu Hart
Road Warrior Hawk
Crash Holly
The Wall/Malice
Hercules Hernandez
Big Bossman
Chris Candido
Lord Alfred Hayes
Eddie Guerrero
and now Chris Benoit

Aye it's horrible. I've not watched wrestling properly for a while now but i still remember Benoit. It's unbelieveable, by all accounts he was a nice resonable fella, so to apparently kill his family (over a number of days) is truly shocking.

Stu Hart was not exactly premature.

Well, it seems a fairly safe assumption but the autopsies are today. The authorities term the death bizarre and are not looking for any further suspects. Draw your own conclusions.

I would be astonished if he was not taking steroids - also for what it is worth.

What with the wellness policy they have in WWE, I doubt it. Plus he didn't look like a guy who was on steroids. He wasn't particularly jacked up.

Whatever. It's still very sad.

And you listed Owen Hart. His tragic death had nothing to do with steroids.

are you sure you've not taken some Dax?? yeah because none of the, particularly him, have the pumped up, low body-fat, bulging vein bodies and mental health issues associated with steroid use at all. Benoit was a classic steroid-abuser.

Wellness policy??? You are kidding aren't you? If they were clean they'd have WADA dope testing. There's much chance of Mich being crowned King of the Ring at Wrestmaniw XXXV

And Freddie Blassie was hardly young either.

That said, his point remains that an unresonable number of wrestlers die prematurely as a result of substances they take to keep themselves going. Bam Bam Bigelow was another recent one, and i wouldn't be entirely shocked to see others go similar ways soon (Kurt Angle for example, can't be healthy).

But yeah, i'd also be suprised if Benoit didn't have some kind of steroid substance in him.

I'm not sure what "jacked up" means, but his upper body was what they would call over here "ripped" - i.e great muscle tone and physique. While there are doubtless some wrestlers who don't use steroids, I don't think Benoit was one. Triple H practically runs WWE and he has surely used steroids - so I'm not sure about this wellness policy. I haven't watched WWE for some years so I am out of touch (when Raw went up against 24 and Heroes it was no contest).

I remember these not so long ago!

They're dead now?! I'm so shocked!

RIP all.

Think something needs investigating here.
