Had my half marathon today...got 1:51:19
A bit gutted I must admit for not breaking 1 50 but at least I can honestly say I tried my best, and I managed to beat my previous by more than 5 minutes think a bit more training is necessary next time.

Well done, Verbal. If my rough calculations are correct that's a tad over 14 Km/h on average. To keep up that for nearly two hours - in my books anyhow - is bloody great.
It makes one's mind boggle when you look at the 'professionals' who do the full marathon in just over two hours (20 Km/h average). There're some fit buggers on this planet and I'm not one of them.

Indeed dujon - a top marathon runner is going at 20kph (13mph), just try try running at that speed down the gym on a treadmill, it's a touch difficult for a few hundred yards let alone 2 hours.

Why is it so difficult on a treadmill to get up those speeds though?communistworkethic wrote:Indeed dujon - a top marathon runner is going at 20kph (13mph), just try try running at that speed down the gym on a treadmill, it's a touch difficult for a few hundred yards let alone 2 hours.
For example, I often do 2km on the treadmill just a warmup before weights, and I do it in about 7mins30sec, which feels like a pretty fast pace to me, but on a track that's a crap time.

Well, it is 16 km/h by my reckoning - you'd need to get down to six minutes to do 20 kph. Still 16 kph is not too shabby if you have short legs...mummywhycantieatcrayons wrote:Why is it so difficult on a treadmill to get up those speeds though?communistworkethic wrote:Indeed dujon - a top marathon runner is going at 20kph (13mph), just try try running at that speed down the gym on a treadmill, it's a touch difficult for a few hundred yards let alone 2 hours.
