Fred Titmus
Another blow to my list of people I have admired has taken off.
From my perspective he was a wonderful ambassador for cricket and his country. A world beater? No. A good, solid, dependable member of a cricket team? Yes.
I wondered at times if his contributions to cricket might have been greater after his official retirement from first class tourneys than they were to the game when he played, but I think that would be being ungracious.
Cheers, old man, I hope the wickets take spin in wherever you are.

He was a great all-rounder IMHO. He became our off-spinner to replace Laker and Lock, coming on after Brian and Fred got tired. I guess they are all gone now from that era.Dujon wrote:Another blow to my list of people I have admired has taken off.

Heard Boycott talking about Fred Titmus on the radio yesterday. I never knew about Titmus's accident - when he was on tour in the Windies, his foot got caught by a boat propeller, and he lost four of his toes. Ouch! Within two months, he was bowling again.

Yes, what he did not know was that the propeller of that boat was not at the stern but in the middle of the boat. He and his teammates were hanging on the middle of the boat side and he let his feet go up to the bottom of the hull.Winter Hill White wrote:Heard Boycott talking about Fred Titmus on the radio yesterday.
