I had a little wine shop there on friday - didn't spot that one...Bruce Rioja wrote:William - Aldi are doing a 2006 Rioja Reseva at £5.99 a bottle. Get onto it, my friend.
But got the 4.99 macon-villages, a pinot grigio at 3.79 and half a doz fizzy cremant de jura at 6.99... 17 people round for hot pot or veggie tagine. Got some red to go with it - pinot noir from calfornia on offer from morrisons at 4.99 - don't recommend though. Okay but nowt good.
then guests brought booz with them so I'm sorted out for a week or two..

It's good on flavour, William, but it's a bit thin on body.William the White wrote: is the rioja reserva on the ball?

i have to say that as a veggie - and given the frequency with which I am offered cold supermarket "Quiche" - the word "Quiche" usually turns my stomach...
but... I was stuck for summat to make tonight - and had a surplus of eggs - so decided to make a chicken* quiche. and I have to report that it was utter heaven-on-a-plate - to the extent that both my sons had seconds and there is none left for my lunch tomorrow...
yum!!! we ate it picnic style with crusty french bread and salad and a glass of Merlot.... warm home-made real quiche - that's a YES for the future!
(sorry GG - quorn chicken!)

Someone must eat it or they wouldn't carry on making it. It's utterly disgusting.thebish wrote:cold supermarket "Quiche"
Good on ya for making one, thebish. The difference between a warm home-made quiche and the utter shite doled up in supermarkets is an almighty chasm.

Sunday's chicken curry - the last of the remainder...
Sunday's rice... ditto...
Today's yogurt... This curry has a little chilli hanging around it...
Normally would be a red, but an Aldi Sicilian Pinot Grigio at under four quid is open and beckoning...

The only time we eat quiche is when my Dad's wife brings us some of her homemade stuff down. As has been said, the supermarket stuff is dreadful. Homemade and at room temperature, it's as good as almost owt.

Tonight, it's a personal favourite; butter bean, pork fillet and chorizo stew followed by Sicilian lemon cheesecake. Oh yes

That pork dish sounds bloody good. Any chance of a recipe mate? Good to catch up at the Blackburn game too! You'll have to come down on the train next time though.Bijou Bob wrote:Tonight, it's a personal favourite; butter bean, pork fillet and chorizo stew followed by Sicilian lemon cheesecake. Oh yes

It was great to see you mate. Nice to see you without the cardiganBurnden Paddock wrote:That pork dish sounds bloody good. Any chance of a recipe mate? Good to catch up at the Blackburn game too! Half pound of pork fillet cut into pieces and browned off, 1 chorizo sausage cut into 1 cm sections. Fry 1 large onion with 2 cloves of garlic until golden brown, adding in a tablespoon of smoked paprika and some fresh coriander. Add in the meat plus 2 tins of butter or canellini beans plus a good glug of red wine. Bang in oven for an hour or until pork fillet is soft. Spread a couple of dozen dorito's on the top, sprinkle liberally with mature chedddar and return to oven for 5 minutes.. Done! Serve with crusty bread or rice.
Sicilian lemon cheesecake: Walk to Lidl, dodge asylum seekers, assorted riff raff and embarrassed looking middle class people searching for bargains and spend £2.99. Defrost.

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Re: What are you eating and drinking tonight?
Mr Gooner Girl is turning VERY old today (43) In honour of his birthday, old gimmer-ness and impending bus pass I have decided to cook his favourite meal his mum used to make. Mince and baked bean pie. Hmmm.
Anyway, quick cooking question as his mum neglected to write on the recipe and I have no clue what I am doing. Should I brown the mince in a frying pan before putting it in the pie and in the oven?

How's he got to 43 without succumbing to food poisoning?Gooner Girl wrote:Should I brown the mince in a frying pan before putting it in the pie and in the oven?
If you follow this or one of the numerous other mince and baked bean pie recipes on the web, you probably won't go far wrong.
