Ingredients include
Canned Fruit
Strawberry Jam
Milk
Custard Powder
Self Raising Flour
Margarine
Cream
But most bizarrely of all...... no Jelly!!!
No jelly ???
... & wtf are flour or marg' doing there ?
I have no idea. I helped her measure the ingredients last night. She has brought home some decent stuff in recent weeks but I worry for this one. No Jelly (shakes head).

Maybe the flour and marge are to make the sponge/biscuit for the trifle?

Any update on how this all worked Gart ?Gary the Enfield wrote:And the sugar. Hmmm.....Abdoulaye's Twin wrote:Maybe the flour and marge are to make the sponge/biscuit for the trifle?

Genuinely curious.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Okay. The flour/ marg/ sugar WAS for sponge. Not fingers though. They did little cupcakes coated in strawberry jam. She built it up in layers of fruit (mandarin segments) custard, whipped cream and chocolate sprinkles.
I had some after dinner last night and it was very tasty (genuinely). But it still lacked Jelly. The reason they gave was they were limited for time and the jelly would have taken too long to set. I may encourage her to try again this weekend, when there is more time.

So, no jelly because there wasn't time for it to set.
Next week, casserole, without the casserole I guess.
At least it wasn't some bizarre vegi/vegan thing.

Had late lunch at the absolutely amaaaaaazing Cafe Fiorello. Apparently it was Pavorotti's favourite NY restaurant (there's a little brass plate with his name on on his favourite table). The Italian nosebaggery bar has just been reset to 'Extremely fecking high', Wow.

My friends birthday tomorrow and I have made her a surprise cake to be eaten whilst we are out at the local national trust place with the kids. BUT - and this is the BIG question - What sort of icing? Buttercream or glace??

Not tonight, but last Monday, we celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary with a meal in a restaurant in a palace overlooking the Bosphorus. In bright sunshine, beneath a giant shade.
The food was fine - but it wouldn't have mattered too much if it had not been - the setting was enough to feed the eyes, the heart and the soul.
