Re: Today I'm neither Angry nor Happy about....
I've just walked down the corridor at work to find the maintenance bloke fitting a new sign to one of the doors downstairs. The sign says "Children's Limb Fitting Room". We have a specialist team downstairs who fit prosthetics for patients, lately usually soldiers.
Sort of puts my first world problems, gripes, whinges and moans into perspective. Odd that a small blue sign could upset me so much. I'm neither angry or happy, I'm just very, very grateful.

On the NHS front, just tried to book a doc appt, next one is in 2 weeks!! Astonished rather than annoyed. No wonder emergency services are under strain. My arm may well have fallen off by then. I expected a a wait, but haven't been to the doc for about 4 years so what do I know?

wait for it to drop off - then ask Bijou for directions to the beardy-blokes limb-fitting room...LeverEnd wrote:On the NHS front, just tried to book a doc appt, next one is in 2 weeks!! Re: Today I'm neither Angry nor Happy about....
Ha I went to the docs yesterday having been pleasantly surprised when booking it to find I could get one two weeks in advance. In around Jan/Feb last year I was looking at a month.
Healthcare, housing and Legal Aid scare me at the moment. Bad things are going to start happening, and soon. I think I might go write for the Daily Mail.

Today I'm BOTH happy and angry. Girlf's main Christmas presents are good but a bit prosaic so I ordered a daft 'message in a bottle' thing online. I'm happy that I decided to check it before hand to make sure the message looked fine. I'm angry that they've put in a message that starts "Dear Candice"... as Candice is very much not the girlf's name. That could have been fun !

I have the occasional habit, alas, of calling my second wife by my first wife's name. This is not always fun. The worst part is her first husband's name is the same as mine so I don't even know if she has done it.Prufrock wrote:Today I'm BOTH happy and angry. Re: Today I'm neither Angry nor Happy about....
Just surprised.
Did a Pride and Prejudice quiz set by The Telegraph. In the story, Mr Bennet meets a cousin ( Mr Collins)who he hopes will turn out to be stupid (for his own amusement. Mr Bennet takes pleasure in the ridiculous) Mr Collins indeed turned out to be stupid.
I got all the questions in the quiz right except one. That one was:
12 Whose cousin was "as absurd as he had hoped"? My answer was...
✓Mr Bennet
Darcy
Mr Collins
I filled in Mr Bennet and was told that was wrong. It wasn't. If it had said "which cousin" then fine, but it didn't. It asked "whose cousin" in which case it was Mr Bennet's. Views?

I agree (although it says absurd not stupid). Time for a stiff letter to the editor.TANGODANCER wrote:Just surprised.

Unfortunately, Monty, the comments section of that thread is closed. I shall however, post an old copy of Pride and Prejudice through the editor's letter box with the relevant parts highlighted in flourescent yellow. That'll teach him, the utter bounder....Montreal Wanderer wrote:I agree (although it says absurd not stupid). Time for a stiff letter to the editor.TANGODANCER wrote:Just surprised.

1st you've been royally screwed.
2nd serves you right for reading the Telegraph ( I'm strictly a Times man me'sen).
3rd you know you're right and you know they're wrong, but they don't know this, therefore you know stuff they don't which qualifies you as being legitimately more intelligent/savvy/knowledgeable than an entire publication
That's not a leopard!

The other half works at a surgery where there's a 3 week wait for an appointment, but they do run a service where if you ring up in the morning you're guaranteed a doctor will call you back and if necessary bring you in / visit your home same day.LeverEnd wrote:On the NHS front, just tried to book a doc appt, next one is in 2 weeks!! Seems a reasonable approach of coping with this demand to me, although of course there's only so much you can discuss on the phone in 5 minutes they should be able to spot any 'red flags'
I also know that in a Manchester A&E on the evening of Tues 23rd December there was no-one waiting because funnily enough only accidents and emergencies turned up, although some people do try to drop their elderly relatives off so they can have a break. Christmas eh

Frustratingly, I believe they're working on around 20% no shows in a lot of areas too.Athers wrote:The other half works at a surgery where there's a 3 week wait for an appointment, but they do run a service where if you ring up in the morning you're guaranteed a doctor will call you back and if necessary bring you in / visit your home same day.LeverEnd wrote:On the NHS front, just tried to book a doc appt, next one is in 2 weeks!! Those of you with company cars. What they worth pa do ya reckon?
Fed up at work last week I applied for a new job for the first time in donkeys years. Now I've got an interview I'm a bit frightened It's 5.5k less than I'm on but with a company car chucked in. Will I be much worse off?
Also, what's the deal with fuel? I assume they have ways of stopping you filling up on a Friday, buggering off to the coast at the weekend on their fuel, then filling up again on a Monday?

As a guide my firm offers a cash alternative of £4,800 to the car, not including fuel and subject to income tax of course. So a basic calc could be 4.8k minus tax versus how much do you spend on your car at present, including depreciation.Harry Genshaw wrote:Those of you with company cars. According to my P11D, the car is valued as being worth £4,578 PA, and the fuel is valued at £4,646, so I pay additional income tax on £9,224. Still a very good deal, I reckon.Harry Genshaw wrote:Those of you with company cars. What they worth pa do ya reckon?
