Cos it's nothing to do with bottling and everything to do with Tsonga playing out of his decking skin.Annoyed Grunt wrote:How so?BWFC_Insane wrote:What a complete load of total and utter bollocks.Annoyed Grunt wrote:Murray bottling it again?
Murray has had break points this set and on three occasions would have won them but for utter brilliance from Tsonga. That's just great play from his opponent.

Brilliant - but what a way to claim it
Now hopefully I won't have to hear about Bunny Austin ever again!

Is it just me who thinks the line judges aren't much cop? Ok they will always miss some close ones.
But missing balls that are hitting the whole line? Disadvantaged both players.
Fantastic for Murray. Think he's got little to no chance against Federer who is just too good on grass.
But he's got nowt to lose, just go out and have a go.
Still today history has been made. Fantastic to see it in my lifetime!

Once, just once....please give the guy a chance hey? If he loses he'll have no stick from me.BWFC_Insane wrote:Is it just me who thinks the line judges aren't much cop? Ok they will always miss some close ones.

Oh he deserves no stick that was my point. Federer is incredibly good and looks on form.TANGODANCER wrote:Once, just once....please give the guy a chance hey? He has a chance, probably his best yet in a final.
But he is playing probably the greatest grass court player ever. Not easy!

Nah I think Federer is better as much as I loved Beckers athleticism and Borgs brilliance.TANGODANCER wrote:Of this era maybe, but Sampras, Becker, Borg...?BWFC_Insane wrote: He has a chance, probably his best yet in a final.

All about opinions but many pundits have described Federer as the best player ever, for me he certainly is on grass at least.....
Re: Tennis, anyone.....?
Might be a tough call over who's the best ever grass court player but wouldn"t fancy Murray's chances against any one of those guys, so no it won't be easy. He is going to have to play at his highest level, and Federer can't play as well as he did today.TANGODANCER wrote:Of this era maybe, but Sampras, Becker, Borg...?BWFC_Insane wrote: He has a chance, probably his best yet in a final.

Re: Tennis, anyone.....?
I think both Murray and Tsonga were too generous with 'gifts' to each other today, frustratingly so at times. Murray won't be getting any of those on Sunday and will be cruelly punished for any errors he makes. As much as I'd love to see him do it - I really can't see passed a relatively comfortable Federer victory. I sincerely hope I'm wrong though.

The camera panned to the Umpire on a few occasions during which he was giving it the old "That's another one".BWFC_Insane wrote:Is it just me who thinks the line judges aren't much cop? Ok they will always miss some close ones.

Re: Tennis, anyone.....?
Federer , for me , is the best player ever on grass. Although I can just about remember Rod Laver who was equally invincible in his particular era. Sampras was clearly the best of his time with the technology of the time available- quicker balls etc but would have won far less Wimbledon's with anyone near the quality of Djokovic, Nadal and Murray about.Borg was essentially a clay court player whose will and powers of concentration won him more titles than his ability merited.seanworth wrote:Might be a tough call over who's the best ever grass court player but wouldn"t fancy Murray's chances against any one of those guys, so no it won't be easy. Murray is going to have to play out of his skin to win on Sunday. Nothing to do with "bottle"- he has plenty of that

Re: Tennis, anyone.....?
See this, for me, is where best-ever-sports-person discussions always fall down. When I was a boy the centre court was absolutely fecked by this stage of the competition. Like you say, quicker balls need to be countered in but then do wooden racquets. As such I'm always happy to leave these discussions as best-of-his/her/their-era rather than best of all time.lovethesmellofnapalm wrote: Sampras was clearly the best of his time with the technology of the time available- quicker balls etc
Here's one for you though - given the level of competition provided by Djokovic and Nadal (Murray not withstanding) isn't it fair to say that Federa is the best of the toughest era? Whaddaya think?

Re: Tennis, anyone.....?
That in itself is a tough one. Federer won a lot of his titles, but not all, before Nadal came onto the scene. Nadal's has beaten Federer almost twice as many times as vice-versa, at 18-10. Then a few years later Djokovic explodes onto the scene. It is a difficult one to call. It is foreseeable that in 20 years time we could be calling any one of the three of them the 'greatest ever'. Federer on grass (and indeed hard), and Nadal on clay certainly have very very strong claims to be the best ever on the respective surface.

Rod Laver is still the best for me, Federer a close second.
If he wins a couple more Slams though, then that will change.

Re: Tennis, anyone.....?
I'm not sure I follow this - Federer has won 16 slam events while Laver "only" won 11. Of course Rocket Rod was also on the cusp of amateur and professional, so lost opportunities. Other than that, the best ever argument is a silly one IMHO. The differences in footwear, rackets, balls, etc. not to mention training methods and stimulants, make it a different sport.jmjhb wrote:Rod Laver is still the best for me, Federer a close second.

Is it right if Federer wins Wimbledon he will equal Pistol Pete's record of Grand Slams?
