Well, to make it all easier, I'm sticking solely to White Boy Guitar Music Made In 1994 Or After.

Tackle the whole world of music and we really would be here all bloody day! :)

I'll jump in with a band that was always better than Oasis.

Ten
Vs.
Vitalogy

That's a three album run to start a band with.

Kid A, Ok Computer and Amnesiac all great for me, with In Rainbows up there too.

I could not disagree more.

In fact, I'd argue you were insane for deeming "Kid A" to actually be music at all.

OK Computer was their third album anyway, so dunno why you mentioned that.

Agree with you exactly on that. Going back to MSP though, I've always thought that they seem to make 50% of a great album and then just fill the rest of it with turd.

...and that, surely, is the mark of a truly great album: all killer, no filler. Debates begin, of course, when folk disagree as to which is which. But they rarely do. Interestingly, in the post-CD age, the album listings are top-loaded, with the good stuff first to catch the eye of hurried shop browsers and iPod skippers; there's a theory* that you can best judge a modern album by tracks 7 and 8.

My tupporth on Radiohead is that I much prefer The Bends to OK Computer, and don't like much thereafter. As for Oasis, two fine albums pre-hubris, occasional good songs since, which brings us back to the 'great album' qualification.

Agreed with Mof that Super Furry Animals come close; Rings Around The World and Phantom Power would accompany me to the rhetorical desert island but I never really loved the follow-up Love Kraft or the preceding Mwng (possibly because it's in Welsh, and which crazy arses record in Welsh?! )

I know that, I was just listing my favourites. Twas the start for me and not the end of their awesomeness.

And I'm not biting. :)

For the record though, I love the first 3 Oasis albums, Be Here Now is actually my favourite.

I'm glad somebody said that. Praps not my favourite, but equally as enjoyable, and a lot of my fav songs come off it. As much as I love Oasis though, and I massively do, I wouldn't have said any were great albums. Definitely Maybe is close, but 'I really like it' isn't enough to constitute greatness.

I don't like Oasis at all... however, there's a good argument for their first two LPs being 'great'.

The impact they had was phenomenal. They seemed to be able to do no wrong for those years and (in my opinion obviously) the third LP is when it began to unravel with over indulgent tracks like 'All Around The World and the pedestrian 'Stand By Me'. 'D'You Know What I Mean' had all the hallmarks of a great Oasis single though.

Hang on, I thought you were going to give us sage examples of bands that've made three consecutive great albums. Anyhooo, for what it's worth, I've never actually managed to listen to Oasis's third album all the way through at a single sitting as IMVHO I agree with you entirely.

Why so much fuss about a boring Beatles tribute act?

Aye, I suppose that it all gets subjective really. I'd put Rattlesnakes, Easy Pieces and Mainstream by Lloyd Cole & The Commotions but would expect to find myself in a field of one really.
