Indeed, that entire area is without a single redeeming feature. I used to work in Smethwick - dreadful place. It wouldn't surprise me if the suicide rate in the Black Country is higher on average than everywhere else.

Whitehaven and Barrow are up there with the best of them. Can't think of any redeeming features.

North Wales when you couldn't get a beer on a Sunday, not that I'm much keener on Wales now.

I very, very nearly ended up working in Whitehaven for 2 years beginning in July. Managed to get Carlisle in the end, but for a while I was very nervous.

now... it's NOT the place where it was filmed - but presumably the place where the writer of Faulty Towers had such a shitty stay that he wrote the series...
