So come on............Whatcha get for Crimbo then?
I got a fantastic Christmas present from the missus, it's something I didn't even know had been done. She knows I've always loved the original War Of The Worlds, and have done ever since I first heard the cassette at the age of eight. It frightened me to death and I was hooked from that day.
Well, they have done a musical stage show of the original and it is absolutely fantastic!!! The orchestra is normally based in a pit below the stage, but here they are in clear view on the stage itself. Behind them is a huge (and I do mean big!) screen which shows the movie (the digital one that every fan has been praying would one day be made, not that American insulting crap!) with the war machine as they were supposed to be shown.
To the left was a giant cut out of Richard Burtons head which, through computer graphics talks and narrates the story as it goes along.
If anyone is a fan of the original War Of The Worlds, you simply must have this! It's fantastic!!
Anywhoo, what did you get

A musical, SOTWA? That sounds bizzare. I wonder what the instigator of that idea had been smoking when the little lamp lit up. I've heard the original on a number of occasions over the years (Orson Welles?) and it has never worn thin - but, honestly, a musical? Are you being fair dinkum, ridgy didge and true blue here?Soldier_Of_The_White_Army wrote: . . . Well, they have done a musical stage show of the original and it is absolutely fantastic!!! . . .
No, I really don't doubt your veracity, good sir; I just find it a strange conception.

Well, seeing as they have also done a Hollywood so called 'Blockbuster', I dont. My point was that they did a live stage show, adapted direct from the original, the way it should have been.Dujon wrote:A musical, SOTWA? That sounds bizzare. Fair enough, Soldier. Please don't get me wrong, I'm not 'having a go' - I was just surprised (and intrigued). Maybe I shouldn't be; after all it was a theatrical production in the first place, even though via the medium of radio (Mercury Theatre if my memory's up to scratch).
Next time I'm in the vicinity of the appropriate premises I shall ask about this production as you have genuinely piqued my interest, particularly with your enthusiasm for the DVD.

I got an iPod nano after I broke my iPod earlier in the year. My mum was shocked at how tiny it was and couldn't shut up about it.
My SO has booked us in to a restaurant called Gaucho Grill which is manchester, I've been wanting to go for ages!
I'm not sure what other peoples households are like but since I have been born the person who has always done the best is my mum, she was bloody swimming in gifts again!
I'm not sure if anybody goes on the somethingawful.com forums bust they had a secret santa which I joined in with, they set a maximum price to spend and you get assigned a random santa and santee. I think it would be a good idea to do one of these on here next year, obviously only with regular known posters so nobody is ripped off. I think their amount was only a fiver, so it's not much and a really neat idea.

Hey Dujon. Jeff Wayne's "War of the Worlds" album was fantastic and timeless. Still got a mint copy of the double L/P complete with booklet. With Burtons voice and the original sound track added to visuals it sounds phenomenal. Phil Lynnot, David Essex, Moody Blues, Rita Covinton etc etc. Must be brilliant.Dujon wrote:A musical, SOTWA?
