Preston ponder move for Ricketts

Former England striker Ricketts has Premiership experience
Preston boss Paul Simpson is considering throwing ex-England striker Michael Ricketts a career lifeline.
Ricketts, 28, has been training with the Championship side and could be offered a deal if he impresses in a reserve team game.

Simpson told his club's official website: "He's a fantastic footballer. He just let himself go a little bit and lost his fitness.

"He put a lot of weight on but he has got rid of all that."

Ricketts, whose career has gone downhill since leaving Bolton three years ago, has been without a club since being released by Southend but has been training in America.

America? Where was he? How come no one told me! I would've loved the chance to both thank him and abuse him.

Would have thought he would have put more weight on in America.

You can tell Preston are getting desperate! My mate's a North End fan, he'll be gutted when he hears this!

Until fairly recently I worked in Leeds, and basically, the Leeds fans consoled themselves regarding their Play-Off Final panning by Watford with the fact that - Had they got promoted they'd have owed Middlesbrough £1M for the services, or rather the non-services (nay goals in 25 league games), of one Michael Ricketts.

Can't help thinking that a good manager could get him back to where he once was. However, if that really is the case then I suppose that he'd be back at our place. If BSA considers you a hopeless cause then you really don't have much going for you.

A silly, silly boy.

Has anyone seen the Ricketts compilation floating about on youtube? I forgot how good this guy was, he could have been a true Bolton great, and let us not forget, his 24 goals sent us up and those 15 goals before February kept us up. Best signing that Sam has ever made imv. I'll probably be in the minority here but I wish him all the best at Preston.

Nah, we got better when he left, and he was a huge factor in our early Prem success. Still, I'd like the chance to tell him he fecked it all up.

I hope he does well, but I just can't see it happening.

Yes, by a drunk american wanderer. I only got to boo him at the CC final. I would love to play Preston in the FA Cup and give him an applause as he came out and then proceed to boo every touch. After that, I could wish him well.

I don't wish him well

Thought he was a god in his time with us, but he blew all that

I don't care how he does really, but if pushed, I'd hope he fails

OK, he made something of a fool of himself and has suffered the consequences. He did do wonders at Bolton up to the time he lost the plot.

Perhaps he's simply grown up - most of us eventually do (though I'm still working on it). He has my best wishes should that be the case as there is no doubt that, when he puts his mind and body into it, he's a pretty decent footballer.

All the best, Michael.

Totally agree.

He fecked everything up himself and as such has only himself to blame, the lazy fat fecker.

Can't agree, Dujon. He had too much too easily. Why waste your good wishes on a man that thinks the gravy train will never end? Why give a feck about a man that basically couldn't. My best wishes? They go to Dario Silva, the former Portsmouth player that recently lost a leg and is now determined to get himself into the Uruguayan Rowing Team for the next Olympics.
Ricketts can get fecked, basically.

That really puts it into perspective. And I agree with your last line, too :?

The idiot had talent. Shame about his attitude. How many times has he had a new start? Second or third this season?

Preston have some decent strikers? They always used to sh*t emselves about facing him though I recall that
