The Wind

Post by hisroyalgingerness » Thu Jan 18, 2007 1:28 pm

a woman's just died in the centre of manchester as a slate's fallen off the roof of the church on st annes square
absolutely terrible news

it's absolutely dire outside, wherever you are if you don't need to go outside, don't

power cuts a plenty as well

bear in mind as well builders etc will have buggered off and left scaffolding etc to it so entire roads are a death trap

the windows in my office keep rattling and there's 2 small lampposts in the car park which look like they're going to topple (not near my car thankfully)

I went out a lunchtime and was almost lifted right off my feet by the wind. It is really hard work just standing upright at the moment. Dreading driving home, like a bad episode of Star Trek.

Just seen a young girl blown off the pavement in Oxford Road. Trees are in serious danger of coming down. Go carefully wherever you are.

Yeah, I'm finishing my brew then heading home. Half of the M60 is shut now too. Last thing I need is battling it in rush hour.

Our office rooves are blowing off and there are porta-cabins sliding around outside.
Just went out for a cigarette and the bin/ashtray was about half a mile away from where it normally is.

Is a porta-cabin what we call a porta-potty or Johnny-on-the-spot? If so, the thought of them flying around is nasty - especially if someone is using it.

Nah.

A portacabin is basically a temporary office. Used on construction projects mostly.

Thanks - porta-potties are usually found on construction sites too. Our temporary offices here are more like caravans - on wheels and towed in.

The ones here were allegedly temporary, although they've been here for atleast 8 years.

At least you'll get some exercise. having to walk half a mile to flick your cigarette.

I've just seen a tree blow down and close a bus route behind my house.
