Hatton v Mayweather Jr
Now that this is all but confirmed is anyone else giddier than a stoned hyena?
It's a mouthwatering prospect. Hatton will be stepping up to welterweight where he has struggled in the past. However, Mayweather Jr isn't a big welterweight and Hatton has plenty of time, not a luxury he was afforded against Collazo (the last fight at welterweight).
Mayweather Jr has been making a lot of noise saying that Hatton has never fought anyone like him before and that he will get a rude awakening. Whilst it may be true that Mayweather Jr will be the fastest fighter Hatton has faced he hardly has a concussive punch and Hatton is a vastly underrated boxer. Yes he's got heart and can brawl but he also cuts the ring off better than many fighters I've ever seen.
In Mayweather Jr's fight against De La Hoya he was in trouble until De La Hoya tired in the 7th - not something that will happen with Hatton.
I think Mayweather Jr will be surprised by the intensity and power of Hatton's approach and it will be far closer than he thinks. Plus, if he lands a body shot like that on Castillo then it's goodnight Mr Mayweather Jr!
Hatton in the 10th on a TKO to confirm him as the greatest ever British boxer.

So then... not long until we get to see this now. I'll still be in Belgrade when the fight's on, so I doubt I'll be able to see it live.
I'd love Hatton to f*ck up Mayweather, but I don't think he will. Here's hoping I'm wrong!

The undercard starts at 11pm and I wouldn't expect Hatton to be on much earlier than 5am.
A few pubs will have it on, I think the Red Lion at Four Lane Ends for example.
I'm really hoping for a Hatton win but I know it will be extremely tough. Mayweather Jr is a world class fighter in his prime and as good as Hatton is he has never faced anyone like that before. Tsyzu and Castillo were both on the downside of their careers.
Having said that Mayweather Jr has never faced someone with the intensity of Hatton and I think it will surprise him. My bugbear in the build up to the fight has been people who know nothing about boxing writing Hatton off as a brawler and that he only has a puncher's chance. Absolute nonsense. If Hatton can get into Mayweather Jr's body (assuming the ref doesn't keep separating them) then he can cut the ring off and pain and exhaustion will curtail Mayweather Jr's natural speed and agility.
It's been a long time since Mayweather Jr knocked anyone out and I can't see Hatton knocking him out (unless he lands one like he did on Castillo!) so I'll go for Hatton on points to become the greatest British boxer of all time.

Got to say I think it's abridge to far for Hatton, hope I'm wrong though, as Mayweather is a right royal tw@!!!
Anyone interested I do know they have it on in Scott's as well. Noticed last Thursday pre-game.
I've got a Masons do on Saturday afternoon then watching that. Dear god I'm going to be drunk!!!

Mayweather met by a chorus of "Who are ya".

Love it. He sounds and looks rattled to me anyway!

Its funny you should say that because I was thinking that tonight was the first time I thought Hatton didnt look his usual confident self. I do tend to read way too much into fighters faces before a fight though, so I'm probably wrong. Go Rickymummywhycantieatcrayons wrote:

There was a really good interview with Hatton in the Guardian the weekend before last. He came across as a really nice guy with a pretty good after dinner speaking career ahead of him
"I'm not saying my mums hard but as a kid at Breakfast my Rice Krispies didnt go "snap, crackle & pop" they'd go "Ssshh, she's feckin coming"

Mayweather Jr's a Manc???
I think Hatton's face should hold up pretty well, since he had the last bout of surgery around his eyes the cuts have been kept to a minimum. Also, in Mick Williamson he has the best cuts man in the business.
My main concern is the fact that Mayweather Jr is the master of defensive, evasive boxing and will repeat the second half of the De La Hoya fight.
My main hope is that in the first half of the De La Hoya fight Mayweather Jr looked troubled by De La Hoya's tempo. Hatton should maintain that for 12 rounds and is stronger than ever. No one can take 12 rounds of those body shots.
I think we're in for a classic.
