Consultant psychiatrist Dr Ty Glover, an eating disorders specialist at Cheadle Royal Hospital in Cheshire, said: "It's hard enough for a young girl to confess to, but for a high-profile male politician approaching 70, it's especially impressive.
"It's believed that one in 10 bulimia sufferers are men but I have never in all my years as a consultant specialising in eating disorders come across a man this old suffering from bulimia.
"It seriously makes me think that maybe we're completely missing a whole audience of middle-aged men who are too scared to admit they have a problem." Dr Glover said Mr Prescott's brave admission should encourage other men to stop suffering in silence and seek help.
Is that aimed at wealthy politicians who can afford private treatment, or does it mean get behind an already over-long queue at any hospital telling people they're understaffed and over-crowded? You see, yet another local surgery here where I live has closed down and we now have to all ferret around trying to sign on with whoever will have us if they aren't already "full"
Maybe the MP's could now look at that problem, erm, on behalf of any more of their kind who want to confess health secrets of course.
As you were chaps.

fat boy even says he was sick involuntarily "doctors suggested it was stress". So he was stuffing his face with"anything I liked", getting a bit worked up and puking. Hmmm sounds more like a fat nice person that's worried about being found out for the useless waste of space he is than someone with an eating disorder.
Tell a lie, he clearly had an eating disorder - the inability to stop.

I'm glad you qualified your post, Commie. Most eating disorders are dreadful and the results can be devastating - not only to the sufferer but also to their family and friends. I'm not going to go into it here but I have been affected by the problem (not me I might add).communistworkethic wrote:without wanting to dismiss those who truly suffer the disorder..
Sorry, mate, I'm not meaning to preach; it's just that when people (not you in this case) think it's a silly fad. It isn't. Whilst the person to whom I refer spent years in and out of hospital a few friends were made - a few of them died.
I suppose what I'm getting at is that, whether it's some erstwhile politician - whatever their political leanings - doctors, sport/entertainment people who is the spokesman/person, the highlighting of the problem and the fact that 'it's not a silly phase' that people go through is important. Of course the same concern can be applied to many other situations (MS, Asthma, bi-polar . . . )

I don't for one minute believe prescott actually had an eating disorder other than the inability of his stomach to manage his gluttony and an overriding consciousness that he wasn't up to the job.
Many moons ago I appeared on stage at a famous theatre in a production, written and produced by me. For three days prior to the first performance I puked up regularly through nerves. Did I have Bulimia? Did I fook. Prescott, from what I can see, at no point suggests he's off with his fingers down his throat as he's ashamed of his gluttony, rather he's stuffed himself so much it's made him sick or his nerves have made him sick. And while I don't claim to be an expert on BN, this isn't my understanding of the disorder.
Personally, I don't think Jabba the Hutt is helping those genuine sufferers at all.

On the subject of folk making out that they have some sort of disability rather than just owning up to it that they're not up to the job in hand, this made I larrf it did:
