One Summer by Bill Bryson, this morning's purchase at a charity shop near Huddersfield Station for a paltry 50p. Three chapters in and I feel like I've already fleeced them.

Love his stuff. I have read that one but was a while ago, might have a look in a charity shop myself

If they have two, get me one

I have most of his stuff but that one's escaped my attention.

It's very funny and not just nostalgic. I don't know how accurate but very entertaining. President Harding sounded like a reet piece of work, as they say over there!

I just finished The Go-between by L P Hartley after a recommendation from Bruce.
Famous for its memorable first line, but I knew nothing else about it. Expected a spy novel but it's nothing of the sort. A child's view of the British class system in 1900 and how socially oppressive it was.

He has a 2nd (3rd/4th?) home here and I believe he sometimes comes here to write given the peace and quiet...if you ignore the camper vans!

Currently halfway through the new Strike novel by Robert Galbraith (JKR). Great characters, but not my favourite plot-wise.

My memory isn't what it was L.E., I've read a lot of his. You may laugh but I read Jane Austen over and over and always find something new there. Sir Walter Scott and Rudyard Kipling were big Austen fans, so I'm not alone. Dan Brown's "Origin" was the latest book I've bought and that, to put it mildly, was a load of Horlicks.

My midddle daughter recently bought me a Fire 7 reader which I'm fiddling with right now. Far cry from Shepherd Cross Street library..

Not started it yet, but my daughter bought me for my birthday "Agatha Christie, A very Elusive Woman" the biography by Lucy Worsley. Everything Lucy does is class, so looking forward to it.

Spanish Game is good. Takes a while to get going and not an action novel, more old-fashioned intrigue.

Or wild imaginations; in Dan Brown's latest "Origin" The Archbishop has a homosexual relationship with the King of Spain. Had to tell you to save you paying 8 or 9 Quid on sheer rubbish.

Back to the charity shop last week and picked up Jonathan Wilson's biography of Brian Clough, Nobody Ever Says Thank You. Currently still in his Boro days but already comes across as somebody who hid quite a lot of frailty behind his boisterous nature. Also learned that apparently he sold Gary Megson not long after signing him because our famed tiara-maker kept throwing up before games. Enjoyable.

Also purchased The Corner David Simon's and Ed Burns' profile of a year in gang-rife Baltimore streets in the early 90s, and to mix it up a bit, I, Partridge

All three for a quid.
