Future films - Your recommendations

Post by Soldier_Of_The_White_Army » Mon Jul 14, 2008 7:08 pm

So far this year the dark horses really do have the upper hand on the Blockbuster (in my view), so with 'Dark Knight' now the only thing able to save this summers blockbusters, what have you got underlined for the future?

Here's mine, an alien that lands on earth in 709 AD to take on Vikings, and a dragon, 'Outlander'

Looks like it has a lot of 'The Thirteenth Warrior' and Reign of Fire about it.

Another dark horse to look out for this month, is 'The Mutant Chronicles' Starring Thomas Jane (The Punisher/Deep Blue Sea) and a shoe in to play Commie

And 'Tropic Thunder'

will agree with No COuntry For Old Men, cannot say I've had the pleasure of seeing the other two.

There Will Be Blood is a fantastic film as well.

For films of that type I thought that was very enjoyable.

If the Arrested Development film goes ahead that could be one of the best comedy films next year (or ever?), and possibly the dragonball movie later this year are the two I am looking forward too as a big fan of both TV series. Out of the ones mentioned In Bruges I thought was excellent, and Batman and the new Bond look set to both be brilliant films.

The remake of the day the earth stood still looks quite interesting.

Possibly, but it's a remake, and how many remakes are better than the originals?
Not many. De Palma's Scarface is the obvious one. I would suggest Cronenberg's remake of The Fly is better than the cheesy original with Vincent Price. Obviously Barb Wire is better than Cassablanca. And John Carpenter's The Thing beats the original film hands down.
Beyond that, you're struggling....
Still, it could be good.

Along with "African Queen", "The Maltese Falcon" and "Treasure of the Sierra Madre" you are talking legend there.
