Wish I'd known there was going to be a 'Stop Boris' march tonight, I'd 'av' been right up for that!

until labour roots out all the nut cases and Marxist cranks and becomes the party of ordinary folk again, it won't get elected.

Lee Anderson (not that one) is currently engaging on my favourite election campaign of all time:

He got in!

What a perfect encapsulation of how abysmal and absurd politics in this country currently is.

Let's hope for a decent leader of the opposition.
Keir Starmer - he's yer man.

Looking at some of the places that have gone blue from red - Workington, Barrow, Redcar - fecking REDCAR!!! Sedgfield, Bandwagon Burnham's Leigh, Bridgend, Don Valley, Grimsby.... the list goes on. An absolute disaster for Labour.

I just don't 'get' Keir Starmer. He is obviously an intelligent man but he is a terrible orator. To me, he seems to lack confidence, belief and comes across quite nervous in front of the cameras. He seems a bit nasally when he talks, which grates on me. I personally think they need someone with charisma and presence but I don't think he has it. The only person I can think of is David Milliband but he has been out of front-line politics for a few years now. It might be his time though.

Of that ilk, Yvette Cooper is the best of the lot. A capable and clever political operator. But 1. the membership of the party won't ever allow any of them, and 2. before it focuses on winning a general election, the Labour Party first needs to come to a consensus on what exactly they are and who exactly they want to represent.

And to be honest, no matter who's in charge, I think the conditions for a Labour Party majority won't now be present until the political conversation moves past Brexit.

Apparently the real hotel California is the UN, anyway back to labour. In all honesty there is not one member of the party currently, well in the top tier anyway, that will attract voters across enough constituencies to gain any real majority. The lefties need eradicating do they really think it was just the press, bad weather and Brexit, nothing to do with the comrades at the top with promises they would never deliver? I watched some young woman on GMB yesterday who went into total screech mode when the question of policies was brought up ranting everyone loved them, if that is the standard of the young leftie loons they will never get elected again.

*Grace Blakeley that's the empty head.

They run it though. And are entirely deluded and self righteous. Look at that Momentum guy Lansman. Alan Johnson absolutely hammered him to his face on TV and he hadn't a word to say in his own defence. They're obsessed with rooting out anyone who doesn't buy into their studenty, whingy 'life isn't fair' politics. If they choose a Corbyn accolyte then every right-minded MP should leave and form a new centre left party. Leave them to it, they can link up with Scargill and his commie cranks and carry with their social media echo chambers. Absolutely embarrassing.

With policies like that, have you ever thought of standing?

Trouble is, as we understand it over here, many Labour members are anti-Semitic, which makes them socialist and racist. However, we also understand, many in the Conservative party are as bad if not worse on other issues. Democracy does mean nothing if the only two viable parties are just not worth voting for.

It's exactly the same here, Monty. Labour has been accused of anti-semitism for a few years now. That isn't going away and doesn't appear to be dealt with appropriately.

Democracy (and free-speech) is fine as long as people agree with it. This wouldn't have happened just a few years ago. The losing party members and general public would have moaned the next day but after that would have got on with it. These day they don't want to accept this is the way democracy works.

Progress does not come in a simple straight line. Even though we lost seats heavily on Thursday, I believe the manifesto of 2019 and the movement behind it will be seen as historically important – a real attempt at building a force powerful enough to transform society for the many, not the few. For the first time in decades, many people have had hope for a better future.
I am proud that on austerity, on corporate power, on inequality and on the climate emergency we have won the arguments and rewritten the terms of political debate. But I regret that we did not succeed in converting that into a parliamentary majority for change.
There is no doubt that our policies are popular, from public ownership of rail and key utilities to a massive house-building programme and a pay rise for millions. The question is, how can we succeed in future where we didn’t this time?
There is no quick fix to overcome the distrust of many voters. Patronising them will not win them over. Labour has to earn their trust. That means the patient work of listening and standing with communities, especially as the government steps up its assault. And it means ensuring that the working class, in all its diversity, is the driving force within our party.
The media attacks on the Labour party for the last four and a half years were more ferocious than ever – and of course that has an impact on the outcome of elections. Anyone who stands up for real change will be met by the full force of media opposition.
Deluded

I don't think deluded does it justice.

Socialism in this country has resolutely refused to grow up; I doubt very much it ever will. John Smith's project showed what was possible, it just never managed to dig out the stubborn diseased root. Not to mention his untimely death gave the nation the cult of Blair.

Lesson Number One: If what the last government left behind was of any use, there'd be no need to change it. Let's not pretend anybody has been ousted unfairly or that magic dust is a buyable commodity. Time will, as ever, tell some sort of a tale. The carousel starts up here.
