Went to the Tavern on the Hill t'other day. Was fine. Certainly didn't knock anyone's socks off but was decent value and the beer was good.

Interestingly, a colleague has just informed me that friends of theirs went to Manchester House over the break and described it as being "unbelievably disappointing". So not just me then.

Best meal EVER. Seriously, every forkful an absolute triumph that has you salivating like Pavlov's dog. Do it, Chief. Even better that last time. Furthermore, you know I said that last time it felt like being sat behind a velvet rope in a hotel reception - they've nailed all of that. They've enclosed the entire area and built luxurious rest rooms into the place. The whole experience was one that I don't ever expect to better - and without trying to show off, it is up against some stern and notable competition. I also quite like the modesty of the menu descriptions, in that none of them quite prepare you for the flavour explosion that you're about to experience.Bruce Rioja wrote:Indeed. Girlf's birthday on Saturday so we went to Social Eating House in Soho. Really enjoyed it, despite it being "trendy". Cocktail to start, then a sharer thing of duck confit with mango gel on mini poppodoms (yes, mango "gel", was f*cking lovely though). Starter of pork shoulder in a spicy butternut squash sauce. Then cod with some herb business. Washed down with a bottle of prosecco. Not bad as lunch goes.
Next week it's her dad's birthday and off again to the Butchers Arms in Gloucestershire. Best food I've ever eaten, love it there.

Be careful what you wish for. When I used to live in Chiswick there was a great little restaurant at the end of my street. No sooner than it was awarded a Michelin star than additional tables were crammed in and the prices were increased by more than a little. Anyway, on the subject of food. Shoved a couple of 'deep filled' pies on the oven last night. I'm guessing this is what is now known as an alternative fact given the pie stood little higher than an inch
