I don't know about that. I find skinheads weeing in the middle of Bradshawgate and teenagers driving around with air pistols taking pot-shots at people hilarious.

I don't know whats more worrying, that I find myself agreeing with some of these Bolton comments or not being able to supply any positives against them.

Dear Mar,
Many weeks me and my friends decide to spend our weekends frequenting our town centre. We start off at a pub and then go to another pub and so it continues. Towards eleven we begin to consider that we should perhaps move somewhere a little more exciting but are always disappointed by the choice of nightclubs and late bars that are always full of townies and scrotes itching for a fight. We have tried many options including the casino and curry houses but I still fear that we are not having as much fun as is possible. Can you put us on the right path to a good night out in Bolton town centre?
Cheers.

To echo Enzo's question - myself and a few mates will be partaking in the few pleasures that Bolton have to offer as a Stag Party. Its been a fair while since I ventured into the School Playground that is Bolton Town Centre so I would appreciate your advice as to which is deemed to be the best places to frequent for an evenings drinking. Thankyou.

Oh - and a decent curry house wouldn't go amiss either......

Enzo,

This is a tough one to answer as i'm sure you're more than aware, but i'll give ya a couple of suggestions.

If its excitement youre looking for, you'll find it hard to find with the number of lingering townies, after all Bolton's only got 2 nightclubs and a lot of townies so you're gonna be stuck in finding a decent place without scrotes and townies.

My favoured night out of choice begins with starting out at some random pub, meeting a few friends and having a good chat while playing pool and then moving onto the Varsity for a while (usually busy but not busy enough to have to push people out of the way to get drinks). Then depending on whose hanging around, depends on what club we decide to go into or whether we head back to a mates house, usually where I end up getting back the next day or when its just about to go light again.

I reckon you start off somewhere crap, say hiya, wait for people to meet you and then get rid of all the pleasantries (have somewhere with cheap drinks and something to do). You should then move onto a new pub a little more upbeat and a little livelier. This'll make you glad you left the last place and be content with where you are. Then move onto a club.

I'm not saying its a perfect night by any means, but its a gradual build up where you'll be happier with it because youre constantly not moving about trying to satisfy different peoples wishes. It also means you'll be less disappointed by quality of the new place you've reached as at each step its more exciting than the last.

The biggest problem you gotta watch out for is the number of people that are eager to keep moving about, which its up to you to sort that out.

Good luck

Bench,

The best curry house I can point you to is the Pavilion on the way to Bromley Cross near that Asda which is on Blackburn road.

They do a superb Chicken Methi with Pashwari Naan's.

Service is pretty good aswell. Worth a try at least, i'm not too sure how far out of the way you're willing to go but its a good eat either way.

Does Bolton town centre have a competition on Saturday nights for 'biggest bird in least clothing'?

Maybe Mar knows.

Cheers Mar. Great call on the Pavillion as well, blinding Chicken Dupiaza.

Think you're being a bit hard on Varsity there Caps. It's not great but in comparison with the rest of Bolton's glorious nightlife it has quite a laid-back atmosphere, decent music and reasonably priced drinks. Where do you recommend instead?

The said competition takes place in the Wetherspoon's pub opposite the Pack Horse. It's the sartorial equivalent of watching a car crash. poo:)

Bench,

Yes, they can theoretically dream of sheep (according to Hans Moravec. Director, Robotics Institute, Carnegie-Mellon University, Pittsburgh, USA.
). You see there are a number of different android types, the first is where robots rely totally on human programming (your typical program), the second takes information and uses it in a limited capacity as defined within its programming (for further reference see the likes of Maxim, Schneiderman and Negroponte in fundamentally characterising Software Agents), the third however can model mental states and openly talk about them.

However dreaming is merely a mirror copy of a mental state in order to fine tune its understanding of a human ability. In fine tuning this mental state it can be assumed that the robot does in fact dream of normal sheep instead of roboting sheep (however you can posit the question as to dreaming sheep being a combination of 1's an 0's equating to robotic sheep).

Their is a fourth type that can basically abstract information better than ourselves where our intelligence is derived from evolutionary 'stumbling' as opposed to theirs which is engineered for it.

Dear Mar,

I'm going on a golfing day tomorrow there'll be 12 of us playing Carden Park in Cheshire. During the last few times I've played I've been a bit inconsistant, with my drives having a tendancy to go from left to right (a fade) but my mid irons from right to left (a draw). What have a started to do wrong? and do you have aq quick fix to help tomorrow as it'll be reasonable money and worth trying.

After Golf we're going to Chester races and tis Ladies Night! Do you know of any horses that are in with a shout?

Sorry for the short notice.

Billy,

I too often have trouble with inconsistency in bowling mainly. I can drill the ball down the exact same spot for most of the time too get strikes or leave the one pin standing, yet the inconsistency is the grimmest thing as you know you can do something and get it almost perfected for the most part, but somehow theres something in the way.

When you start hitting the ball perfectly, you instantly know that you're not being inconsistent which throws off your drive and focus and you start being inconsistent again. Its a hard process to do where you stop thinking about how inconsistent you are and how its affecting your game, but its something that you need to work on.

When you hit the ball badly try thinking of the technique that is required and how you went about hitting it correctly on previous swings. Similarly when you're about to hit the ball remember the technique you're using and try to match it if the swing is a good one. Don't try too much to think about where youre going wrong just how to go about correcting it.

If you start hitting them correctly don't think about the end product too much, think about the technique that got you there. Its basically the same as getting carried away with yourself yet in actuality its losing sight of how you've gone it (your minds somewhere else).

Another thing I can suggest to you is don't concentrate on hitting the goal thats miles away but concentrate on a closer goal (bowling may be a bad analogy but I concentrate on the hitting the arrows with a certain curl rather than hitting certain pins), in the case of golf I recommend hitting a certain specific point and aiming to get that everytime with the same level of curl.

Heres an example:
Image

In the image the cross section (red) is the specific spot that you are looking to hit each time to simplify the technique that you're wanting to use. When you hit a good ball think of the flight of the ball in that instance from your standpoint and the position of the ball a few metres away. If you can hit that with the same trajectory and curl each time then you're onto a good hit. Anything that deviates from the centre of the cross section determines how badly the shot is actually going to be.

With golf its never the same shot youre trying to achieve so its a little difficult to practice hitting a certain position each time, but think of your standing position, the position of the cross you hit on the previous shot and judge the power and curl accordingly.

The benefits of doing this is your working on how you hit the ball with the golf club rather than where your trying to direct the ball with the swing. I find that when you general start hitting the same area with the same technique and continue hitting it without losing sight of the technique then it makes it all the simpler to actually continue hitting it with the same level of accuracy.

As for horseracing I can't really help you there. Hopefully some of the others on the board might be able to help you out with that one. But I find that usually 3rd/4th favourites with a slight injury are often the surprise candidates (injury being touted too much where its likely to just be a slight niggle). Hope this helps.
