Twit? To Who?

I'm thinking of putting Mini Medallists onto Twitter. For those that aren't familiar with Mini Medallists, it's my company providing Olympic themed (in all but name) birthday parties for primary school children. I won't use it for anything other than the occasional update of holiday trial courses, or for certain promotions, but nothing more than that.

Now, two questions before I take the plunge:

1) is it the sort of place that will help a commercial venture like myself, and I will benefit from due to the "word of mouth" nature of it all?

2) What is it that turns people off companies using Twitter?
