This is where I live. Well, not exactly there, but not far off. You can see why fire fighting is a problem at times and rescuing people is a risky business. All that greenery is not lichen clinging to rocks, it's trees, trees and more trees. I'm sure that it's not the most beautiful part of the world, or even of Australia, but it might give you an idea as to why I chose to live here.

That tree about an inch to the right of the person must be about 1500 ft high...

Those must be the Great Blue Mountains which my younger son climbed around in a few years back. He said if he ever moved from Montreal he'd go to Australia. Something wrong with that kid. Takes after his mother.

Just bottled my first batch of homebrew for years, a nutty brown ale from a kit. There's a quote on the side of the pack (from The Range - no expense spa.. incurred) saying "The best homebrew I've ever tasted", from 'a homebrew expert' who they failed to name. No matter.

The only homebrew they've ever tasted possibly?

What? I'm just saying.

There's always someone who has to spoil it. I'm sure it was some CAMRA aficionado and a printing error meant his name and credentials were omitted.

I've only ever made one brew. It turned out quite successfully although a bit high in alcohol content. I must have been a bit generous with the sugar added to each bottle before sealing them. It was a basic effort, starting with 'stewing' the hops in a commodious copper and then draining the result through a few folds of an old bed sheet. Prior to starting the exercise was the work of collecting and cleaning old beer bottles which were donated by friends and which were most definitely not discards found in the local park. It was interesting and on a per bottle cost very cheap relative to the commercial products. Still, in a sense, it was a messy process at the beginning followed by the necessity of checking on the brew on a daily basis as it did whatever it is that brews do. After that came the bottling, which was a tedious process, and the addition of sugar to each bottle plus the sealing of each container with a 'Crown' seal which involved the delicate use of a hammer and a purpose built tool to finish off the job.

The second brew didn't happen because of time constraints. Being away from home for more than twelve hours a day, raising a family and having other interests other than beer saw to that.

Good luck, LeverEnd, with your endeavour. I have no idea as to what's involved with these brewing kits and would be interested to know. Cheers. :pissed:

I suspect very little. But i'm still expecting to sample it before the Wolves game.

It comes as a ready-made syrup Dujon, you add sugar, yeast and water and it involves no skill whatsoever. Then just bottle it with a bit of sugar. Might try to do it properly some day!

Thanks, LeverEnd, I've never bothered to check on the kits although there are quite a few around it seems. Anyway, it looks like you have a willing guinea pig lined up in Burnden Paddock.

Good luck with it. It can turn into quite an enjoyable hobby.

I have never done it but relations have. It's good fun at the tasting get togethers.

Can bring on a big red bulbous nose.

Humph.

Come round and drink some next time you're in Horwich, will save you a lot of time and effort with prosthetics.
